"Young Hearts Matter"
February Is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month is dedicated to raising awareness about healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics, the warning signs of abuse, and primary prevention efforts. Dating violence is more common than people think, especially among teens and young adults: One in three teens in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse by a dating partner and nearly half (43%) of all women in college are subjected to some form of abuse.

Every February, in commemoration of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM), young people and their loved ones stand together in solidarity against this epidemic. This annual, month-long push focuses on preventive education to stop the violence in its tracks, before it occurs.

The Montgomery County Women’s Center’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was initiated in 2017. MCWC acknowledges that youth are the experts on their own experiences and are key to identifying solutions to the issues affecting their daily lives. The goal of the YAC is to recognize youth as stakeholders and include them in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Agency’s school-based programming.
