From the Desk of the CEO...
Greetings! one theme that seems to resonate so far in 2021, is how quickly time seems to be passing in our environment right now. The Chamber is actively participating with all levels of government by listening to the challenges of business in our region, working with government to get our voices heard, and communicating supports, policies, and opportunities from the government to our business community.

The Chamber was pleased to work with MPP Will Bouma’s office to coordinate a virtual Town Hall with Hon. Prabmeet Sarkaria, Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction this week to share details and concerns about the recent changes regarding home-based food business, and looks forward to more opportunities in the future which will be shared here and on our social channels.

With that context, over the next few weeks we are eager to hear your thoughts on the hospitality, food service, and tourism industries:
  1. As a business owner, what is required locally and/or provincially to re-open safely and recover economically?
  2. As a client or customer, what do you need to see?
  3. Your thoughts on Vaccine distribution and deployment?

Please share your thoughts as soon as possible though: david@brcc.ca, for collective, confidential responses to local government, the provincial government, and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.

Thank you. Take care and stay safe.
David

Tax Increases Should Be Off the Menu for the Hospitality Industry
Did you know the excise tax on beer, wine, and spirits is set to increase again on April 1? Now is not the time for higher taxes, especially increases targeting the hospitality sector. This crucial Canadian industry needs to be able to remain competitive to be able to recover from the crisis. Share our posts from Facebook & Twitter!

from the City...
Council Governance & Employment Status Review & Boundary Review
We are excited to share that the City of Brantford has just launched a new “Let’s Talk Brantford” online engagement portal that will be a one-stop hub for all open public consultation campaigns, making it more convenient for citizens to provide their input regarding City programs and services.

One of the initial campaigns featured on the new platform is the Council Governance and Employment Status Review and Ward Boundary Review (The Review) which will help inform recommendations regarding the structure of City Council and how ward boundaries are defined in the future. As active members in civic life, we value your opinions and encourage you to participate in this public input opportunity by sharing your thoughts.

The first phase of The Review focuses on council governance and employment status. Council governance includes the number of councillors and the method of election (in wards or at-large). Employment status refers to whether councillors should be part-time (as they have been in the past) or full-time in the future.

Tell us what you think by visiting Letstalkbrantford.ca/GovernanceReview.
We look forward to your input.
