Project Updates
Crown Castle Tree Planting

On May 4th, Crown Castle Inc., as part of its Connected by Good partnership, volunteered to plant 185 restoration trees and shrubs in South Park. The day was kicked off with a ceremonial tree planting led by County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, ACPF Executive Director Joey-Linn Ulrich, External Affairs Manager for Crown Castle, Renee Morales, and County Representative Tom Duerr. Crown Castle also provided a generous grant to cover the cost of the trees and supplies. Learn more!
Nevin Shelter Ribbon Cutting

On May 19th, we unveiled the newly restored Nevin Shelter in South Park with a ribbon cutting. Learn more in this TribLive article or check out the news coverage from KDKA.
Picnic Table at Nevin Shelter

This customized picnic table was handcrafted using the wood from a 250 year old oak tree that fell during a storm in nearby Edgeworth. It is stunning and absolutely worth a visit to go and see! Thank you to the donors who made it possible: Anne and Dave Oyler, the Paul Riis Legacy Volunteers and the Friends of South Park.
North Park Riparian Tree Planting

On May 25th, we partnered with EQT, your Allegheny County Park Rangers and Tree Pittsburgh to plant 300 trees along the North Fork Pine Creek riparian buffer zone. Learn more about our ongoing project along Pine Creek in North Park!

Pittsburgh Arts and Lectures Presents
Christian Cooper
Central Park birder Christian Cooper takes us beyond the viral video that shocked a nation and into a world of avian adventures, global excursions and the unexpected lessons you can learn from a life spent looking up. Cooper's book, Better Living Through Learning, tells the story of his extraordinary life leading up to the now-infamous incident in Central Park and shows how birding prepared him to be a gay, Black man in America today. Learn more about his story on Thursday June 15th at 6:00 pm at the Carnegie Library Lecture Hall. Get your ticket now!

If you have visited Harrison Hills Park, you've certainly seen the Purple Martin houses near the Environmental Learning Center (ELC). Local expert, Ken Kostka, will give a talk about these amazing birds and the importance of the colony that migrates to Harrison Hills each summer. RSVP is required. Register Now to attend on Saturday, June 17th at 11:00 am at the ELC!

Ways to Support
Celebrate the summer weather this June by donating to our Tree Program
Our Tree Program, which was introduced in 2020, helps to fund our ongoing efforts to improve your parks' ecology by increasing our county's declining tree canopy. The Tree Program offers park lovers the opportunity to participate as partners who value our region by enhancing their parks with native trees for the benefit of future generations to come.
