I hope you enjoy the informational stories that we have in this month’s newsletter. Many of the research institutions, around the state have been focused on COVID-19 for the last two years. That important research continues, but clinical trials and other ground breaking research is now becoming the priority. Also, check out the national stories which includes information on breakthroughs in spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, HIV and heart disease.

Koyal Garg, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Biomedical Engineering at Saint Louis University. Dr. Garg’s research focuses on the enhancement of skeletal muscle regeneration and function following injury, disease, and aging, --specifically focused on traumatic muscle injuries. In addition to her research, Dr. Garg is committed to training the next generation of researchers, transferring what she has learned and getting them excited about new ideas and inspiring them find solutions that are unique, and innovative. Meet the Researcher:
Meet Dr. Tolu Oyetunji, Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine and pediatric surgeon and the Director of Health Outcomes Research at the Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC). As an academic pediatric surgeon, Dr. Oyentunji combines his expertise in health services research with his clinical commitments with a goal to answer more pediatric specific population health questions. His clinical interest is in minimally invasive surgery and chest wall deformities while his research focuses more on quality improvement in pediatric surgical care delivery.
