Message from A.J. Baynes
It has been a thrill to travel around our region the past two months, taking in all our area offers during the summer months. The energy in our community is incredible, and it is great to see people engaging with each other and exploring new places and businesses. The Chamber has undoubtedly felt an uptick in energy over the past few weeks, with numerous new members joining, either as long-time businesses recognizing the value of Chamber membership or new companies hoping to utilize the Chamber's vast network in marketing their business. I'd encourage everyone not to let the last few weeks of summer distract you from properly marketing your business as we begin to head towards the fall. The Chamber is here to help assist in your marketing and advertising needs. Whether you need industry experts to assist with search engine optimization, social media advertising, internet ad placement, or print/radio and television, the Chamber has professionals willing to work with your business to help prepare an appropriate outreach campaign on your behalf.
While the Chamber has incredible members who offer their expertise to other members, we have the great fortune of an outstanding Board of Directors. Over the past several years, our Board has grown in diversity and expertise, with board members coming from many walks of life helping to guide our great Chamber into the position that it is in today. As you heard from our Board Chair Mark Gaulin at last month's Small Business Awards Luncheon, the Chamber is in the strongest financial position it has been in quite some time. The Board has played a large part in our success, and many of those board members were recently listed on the Business First Power 200 Women's list...

As a Certified EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) Implementer, I help people to get what they want from their businesses. I do that by providing a complete system with simple tools to help you do 3 things we call Vision, Traction, Healthy.
  • Vision, from the standpoint of first getting your leaders 100% on the same page with where your organization is going and how it is going to get there.
  • Traction, from the standpoint of helping your leaders to become more disciplined and accountable, executing really well to achieve every part of your Vision.
  • Healthy, meaning helping your leaders to become a healthy, functional, cohesive leadership team because unfortunately, leaders often don’t function well as a team.
From there, as goes your leadership team, so goes the rest of your organization. We get to the point where your entire organization is crystal clear on your Vision, all much more disciplined and accountable in executing your Vision, gaining consistent Traction, and advancing as a Healthy, functional, cohesive team.

How to prepare for your annual routine checkup
Cars need regular oil changes. Bridges need regular safety inspections. And your body needs routine checkups. Just think of it as maintenance—the price of keeping your body running smoothly.

Only in this case, that price is very, very low. As in $0. That’s because annual routine checkups are covered in full as a preventive care service.

Before you go to the doctor
To get the most out of your annual visit, make sure you prepare ahead of time. It may help you to bring written notes so you don’t forget anything. Start with these specifics:

·       Existing medical conditions you have and any changes since your last visit.
·       Your family health history.
·       A list of the prescription and over-the-counter medicines you take, including vitamins and supplements. Be sure to include how often you take the medications.

These details will help your doctor better understand your needs.

What to expect at your visit
The annual routine checkup is a chance for you and your doctor to devise a strategy to keep you healthy.
During this visit, your doctor will likely record some measurements and perform some routine tests. He or she may check your blood pressure, vision, weight, and height.

Your doctor may also screen you for some common conditions and give you information about preventive care. These recommendations may include medical treatment, lifestyle changes, or new prescriptions.

What to do during your visit
You can be proactive during these checkups. Refer to the notes you’ve brought with you and be an active participant in your health care strategy. You may choose to ask your doctor about:

·       Screenings and immunizations you need
·       Your medications
·       Lifestyle changes you can make
·       Physical activity and nutrition recommendations
·       Smoking-cessation assistance (if you smoke)

Personalize your list of questions and use your $0 annual routine checkup to give your body the maintenance it needs. For a complete list of preventive care services that Independent Health covers at a $0 copay, please visit our website.
