Welcome to this week's Creativity Crate. With a new month around the corner, welcome its symbolism of gratitude and warmth and explore your habitat.
Take a walk and depict what you see, either in a photograph, a sketch, a painting or words. Then, submit your representation and we'll share it back with our Creativity Crate community.
Two weeks ago, we celebrated National Dictionary Day together. We're still collecting words - we invite you to submit a thought, a prompt, short story or poem so that we can share it back to our Creativity Crate Community.
Performances November 19 - 29 • Live theatre returns – outdoors and with social distancing – at the Alliance! Reserve your square for the hilarious and touching production of Laundry and Bourbon by James McLure. The show focuses on the discontent and very funny gossip of three small-town wives whose marriages have turned out to be less than ideal.
Join us for dinner under the stars or lunch in the shade. Guests are required to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets and you can purchase delicious snack boxes from our partner, Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre.
Sunday, November 15 • Reserve your square on our GreenMarket lawn to experience and enjoy this one-night-only concert! Bear Hill is a bluegrass band specializing in bluegrass, classic country and bluegrass gospel. The band plays hard driving, traditional, recognizable bluegrass and country classics from the West Virginia mountains. The show is filled with comedy and has a friendly down-home manner on stage. The audience is involved with the band and the songs throughout the show.
Wednesday, November 11 • Our raffle winner, friend and artist Lisa Duritsch took one down and is now passing around the chance to win 98 Bottles of Beer (and Wine) and exclusive merchandise and gift cards from some of your favorite local breweries!
Come throw your hat into the ring. Your raffle ticket purchase supports the Alliance's mission to transform lives and improve our community through the arts - and helps you finish out 2020 with a little help from our friends.
Get lucky with 2 tickets for $20 or 12 tickets for $100. On November 11, we’ll (once again) pull a random winner during our Facebook live event. If you already purchased, your tickets have been added to this round but you can still increase your chances of winning by buying more!
Thursday, November 12 • Get in the holiday mood by enjoying five exquisite, lush and truly festive cheeses from the comfort of your own home! Discover and taste grand cheeses and get the hang of putting together your very own dreamy cheese plate with this wonderful event. Your tasting kit (which contains plenty of cheese to make for a family supper and beyond) is your ticket to this exciting event!
Deadline: November 6 • This new exhibition opportunity, in partnership with The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, asks artists to dive into water - an essential component of life on our planet, environmentally, culturally and historically. Prizes will be awarded including $1,000 cash for Best In Show, $250 for 2nd place, $100 cash for 3rd place and Juror's Choice Award of $50.
Deadline for Deck the Halls: November 16 • Deck the Halls is a loosely themed exhibition which encourages appreciation for all holidays of the season! Artists are asked to create works of art or submit installation proposals that utilize holiday imagery, color schemes, decorations, stories or songs in unique ways! Your artwork could depict a seasonal landscape such as a winter wonderland, Christmas in paradise, sculptural variation of the menorah, fine craft wreath, upcycled garland, a Christmas monster like Krampus or alternative holiday like Festivus. The Alliance staff will install colored lighting, decorative lights, and other typical decorations that “deck the halls” of the gallery for a festive backdrop to your artwork.
Drop off for Off the Wall: November 30 • For this year’s Small Works: Off the Walls Exhibition, member artists are asked to submit works valued under $200 in any medium or theme. Just as in past years, all sales are “cash and carry,” meaning purchasers will get to take the piece with them when they buy it, instead of waiting until the end of the exhibit.
The Alliance needs your help. Expense reductions and conservative budgeting only get us so far in making sure the Alliance remains a beacon of hope and connection for all in our community. If you're able to do so, please consider making a gift, of any amount, to support the future of the arts in southwest Florida.
