A Vision For Trinity

As we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic, we join all faith communities in wondering how our congregation can flourish in the years to come.

In the months to come, Trinitarians and vestry will work together to re-imagine our vision and mission.  Although we are just beginning that journey, we want your input.

Over the summer, Dr. Claire Curcio will be inviting small groups from the parish to sit together and reflect on Trinity past, present and future. The groups will be selected to represent our varied demographics and special interests.  These confidential conversations will allow space for ideas, feedback, and hopes for our future. The information gathered will be shared with the vestry and will help us establish a starting point for the vision and mission work.

We love this parish, and we look forward to this work.

Blessings,

Mother Cynthia+

A Great Day For The 2023 Trinity Sunday Parish Picnic

June 4th proved to be a great day to have the 2023 Trinity Sunday Parish Picnic. Under cloudy skies and relatively cool temperatures over 100 Trinitarians, along with their families and friends, gathered on the church grounds to enjoy teriyaki chicken, expertly seasoned hamburgers and nicely cooked hot dogs grilled by the Trinity Chapter members of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Church members provided tasty side dishes and delicious desserts of all kinds. The picnic is an annual event hosted by the chapter.

A man who identified himself as “Norman” wandered over to the picnic site and asked for a bottle of water, which he was given. After some encouragement, he decided to stay and have a meal. He later said he would visit a Trinity Church service in the future. What a win-win situation: Norman was fed and our church has a prospective addition!

B.J. Jarvis planned, oversaw and assisted with the food preparation; he was pleased with the turnout and how much everyone seemed to enjoy the food and fellowship. Many of the youth had fun writing messages on the sidewalk in front of the church buildings and playing games.

The picnic also provided an excellent opportunity to display the Brotherhood National President’s Challenge Trophy won by Province III (out of nine provinces) in 2023 for having the best percentage of membership renewals. Gregory Evans, the Province III President, visited Trinity from Washington DC to bring the traveling trophy for all to see. He expressed his appreciation for the Trinity Chapter’s part in the win and serving as one of the most active chapters in the province. President Gregory was also impressed by the involvement of the youth at Trinity, especially Brennan Gray, the youngest Brotherhood chapter member at 13 years of age, and his brothers, Cian and Auden.

Thanks be to God for the Holy Trinity and a great day for our church picnic!

Save the Date!

Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event

Trinity Episcopal Church will once again host a Rise Against Hunger meal packing event on Saturday, August 26th, 2023. Last year, Trinity packaged 10,152 meals! Since Trinity started partnering with Rise Against Hunger in 2007, we have packaged 86,616 meals. That is enough to have fed over 400 children their lunches for an entire school year.

Donations and sign up for the event can be found

here.

Drop-In Grief

Support Group

A shared hope, held by numerous past participants in Trinity’s Support Group, is that of finding others who know the in’s and out’s of grieving. In short, grieving persons hope to be among others who have walked through the valley of the shadow of loss, depression, sorrow, loneliness, and death.

Finding oneself among fellow travelers helps a grieving person feel less isolated. When that happens, somehow hope gets rekindled and new life begins to feel like a possibility. One doesn’t feel so alone as a sense of community builds within the group. Participants begin to find their voices and utter words that here-to-fore seemed unspeakable. Pain, having once been so guarded, finally finds its voice. Such moments become prayerful times. Truth is discovered in the words “a grief shared is a grief lessened.”

June’s Grief Support Group meets on Monday, June 19th in the Lounge from 10:30 – 12 pm. Contact Randall Clingenpeel for more information (540) 207-0600, especially if this will be your first visit.

Traveling This Summer?

If you're planning to travel this summer, we want to hear about the churches you visit!

Bring bulletins from the churches you visit, and we'll display them in Barber Hall.

In late August, we'll gather to talk about the churches you visited. We want to hear what interesting things you saw and heard, and how they made you feel welcome!

Welcome To Trinity: Welcome Note Writing!

Join Mother Cynthia at 9:15 am in Barber Hall to help us write welcome notes for visitors! These notes are placed inside the popcorn bags and given to our first time visitors.

Don't know what to write? No worries! We have a model note for you to follow or you can write your very own! What do you want others to know about Trinity and what makes it special to you?

Have a favorite pen? Bring it with you! All are welcome!

Come join us for “VBS On the Road” this summer!

Our theme is “What Every Living Thing Needs”, Compassion Camp III, based on Psalm 104. VBS will be held at a different site each day June 10th – 14th, from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

In case of rain, we will meet in the Loft at Trinity. You are asked to bring a bag lunch for your family, except on Wednesday, when we will celebrate with pizza.

Trinity will supply water. Reusable water bottles are encouraged. Please don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray!

The schedule is below:

Sat, June 10th - Memorial Park

Food Energizes Life – We will practice gratitude for food by compassionately acknowledging the world God made (as described in Psalm 104).

Sun, June 11th - Trinity Church

Shelter Protects Life -We are called to provide shelter for one another as we inhabit a world shared with other creatures.

Mon, June 12th - Alum Springs Park

Water Hydrates Life – We will seek wonderment in the power and vulnerability of water and learn how we need to protect it compassionately.

Tues, June 13th -   Old Mill Park

Air Sustains Life - Participants will explore reciprocity in the function of air by seeing their own breath as the sign of God’s Spirit that breathes in them.

Wed., June 14 - Trinity Church

Community Produces Life - We will identify our kinship with the world by understanding our membership in, and connection with, the diverse “neighborhood” of God’s creation.

A VBS registration form may be found here and in a basket in the church entryway. Completed registration forms may be put in the bottom of the basket, given to Sam Burton, or emailed to sburton@trinity-fredericksburg.org.

Please preregister by June 7th so that there will be enough materials ordered for everyone.

Help with VBS - Are you creative? Do you like sharing the word of God with children? Are you ready to have a week of outside fun, music, art, and storytelling? If so, Sam Burton could use your help with VBS!

If you are interested in helping with VBS this year, please contact Sam Burton at sburton@trinity-fredericksburg.org.

News from the Trinity Library

We decided to combine LGBTQ+ and Anti-Racism books in our bookrack for June Pride Month.  We took this step because we believe that bigotry of any kind should not be tolerated and in fact hurts the heart of God.  We hope these books may open some eyes and soften some hearts.

We continue to welcome donations of books on Travel, Sports, Hobbies and Humor. But please remember that the books you donate should be in good shape.  Place them in the donation basket by the cooking and gardening section.  Let’s ramp up the circulation of our children’s books.

We have many educational, fun and entertaining books to choose from.  You don’t need to make a notation on the checkout sheet for each book.  Simply write Children’s Books and the number borrowed on one line of the sheet. We have started a small collection of books on Aging.

You can find the few we have so far on the top shelf of the small bookcase on the left as you enter the library. Help us build this collection by donating books on the joys, challenges, sorrows, wisdom, humor, spirituality or prayers related to the later years of life.  All of us on the Library Committee appreciate your kind help and support.

-Tom Rotella, Chair, Library Committee
