At an RTC meeting last week, a member mentioned to me that seeing the successive notices on Himes’ awful congressional votes was an eye-opener, and hoped it would be for the rest of CT-4 as well. As a follow-up to last week’s alert on Himes’ callous vote abandoning women and girls in sports, we only had to reach back to January. In a vote on January 11th we see that Himes was also callous enough to abandon all the babies who manage to survive abortions.
The H.R. 26: Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act passed 220 to 210 with Rep. Himes [D-CT4]: voting Nay. The Bill requires that, when a baby is born alive following a failed abortion, health care practitioners must exercise the same degree of professional skill and care that would be offered to any other baby born alive at the same gestational age. It also requires that, following appropriate care, health care workers must transport the living baby to a hospital. The Bill was necessitated because, tragically, too many clinics simply do not provide such basic humanitarian care.
This Bill is totally outside the abortion debate. The Bill presumes the abortion was a legal procedure, but steps in to say that the baby who survives has every right to live and be medically cared-for, as any other baby born prematurely.
Just who is Mr. Himes beholden to, that he’s not even willing to explain to abortion proponents that the survivors obviously have all the rights of other living Americans? It would have been a perfect opportunity to draw a line with them and demonstrate he has a heart, and sympathy for these helpless souls? But he did not. He again voted in lock-step with the most radical and zealous elements driving the heartless leftist agenda of the Democrat party.
As the RTC member noted to me, “his votes are very revealing.” Indeed they are. We hired Jim Himes to represent us and vote on our behalf. Does he really think a majority of his constituents approve of votes such as this?
