Community Gardens update

Donating excess produce....
Did you have extra produce in your garden plot? Not sure what to do with all your extra greens or peas?

Tuesday's at Two is back for a second year. Drop off your extra produce under the tree by Loyola field hand wash station. One of our dedicated community gardeners will take the produce to North End Harvest Market for distribution in Guelph. Thank you for supporting this community effort.

Garden Plot reminders:
  • Weed your plot perimeter and pathways.
  • Turn the water off to your field at the main valve when you are not actively drawing at a barrel.
  • Most roads to garden plots are closed to vehicle traffic. Protect tree roots and soil from erosion. Load up your items into the wagon or wheelbarrow located by the Community Garden bulletin board before heading to your plot.

Thanks for taking care of your plots and the land.
Community Field Day & Orchard Pruning
Saturday July 23rd

Join the Farm team in the field for a community weeding work-bee or join the Orchard Collective Summer pruning work-bee in the Community Orchard. Matt Soltys will be leading volunteers in a summer pruning work party in the Ignatius orchard. Pruning is a great way to be up close and personal with fruit trees, and it integrates with many other aspects of orchard care. No experience required, but bring your own pruning tool if you have some.

Please dress for the weather and bring your own gloves. Tools will be provided. Seasonal field work is dictated by the crops, weather and what is most needed that day.
Sign up on the form below!

We look forward to welcoming you to the Farm on Saturday!

The Universe of Soil

Join us at the Farm Workshop Tuesday August 16th from 2-4pm.

Founder of the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada and former professor of Sustainable Food Production at the University of Guelph, Ralph Martin will bring our awareness back to the universe of soil. Spend some time contemplating the role soil plays in bringing us healthy food, ecosystems and cosmic connection.

This event is pay what you can, there will be a donation box at the event. We will be walking between a few locations so please wear appropriate footwear for walking in the fields.

Soil is stardust, undergirding life’s potential on Mother Earth and is a crucial component of terrestrial ecosystems. The flows of energy and nutrients are facilitated by the relationships of soil with water, air, plants, animals and numerous soil organisms. As planetary creatures we are connected by food to soil and life’s cycles. In this session we will contemplate the journey from the great flaring forth to soil to ourselves and will use shovels to explore living systems in the singular medium of soil.
