IIMC Partners with Diligent to bring you a FREE Webinar Opportunity!

Creating a Culture of Ethics in a Small Community

When your employee is your neighbor and you socialize with your council members, is it possible to maintain ethical boundaries? Do small town politics impact decision making? Local decisions are fraught with ethical dilemmas. What are some of these dilemmas, and how can council members proactively identify and navigate these challenging situations?

Join Diana Baker Freeman -- Senior Manager of Thought Leadership at Diligent -- and Buster Nicholson -- Senior Manager of Public Sector Outreach at American Public University -- to examine the ethical issues that can arise in small communities. Presenters will discuss the ethical principle demonstrated, consider possible consequences from the actions, and share recommendations for navigating each situation. Councils that are guided by ethical leadership ultimately create a culture of ethical governance for the community. Leading by an ethical example guides other council members in developing their ability to manage complex situations. Ensuring the business of governance is conducted in a transparent way is central to creating a culture of ethics. We will explore how governance management software simplifies this transparency and creates a foundation of trust and support in small communities.

Date: Tuesday, March 23
Time: 1:00 - 2:00 PM ET (10am PT, 11am MT, 12pm CT)

IIMC Office Update
IIMC staff continues to work daily, ascertaining that we are meeting our members' needs and ensuring there is continuity within the Organization. Staff continues to work full-time via a staggered schedule, splitting its time in the office and remotely as we slowly maneuver our way into having everyone safely back at headquarters. The timetable to return staff safely to a full office schedule is still in flux. Staff's safety and continuous service to our members are paramount. As of this E-Briefing, staff will continue to operate using a staggered schedule until it's safe to return everyone to work.

The Education Department has been working with Institutes and IIMC affiliated online companies to produce webinars and to provide complimentary and discounted online courses. The certification application and review process remain at two to three-weeks. Members who have certification points on file may still schedule appointments in available time slots to discuss reviewed certification applications and points received.
The Membership Department continues to be at your service via email or phone calls.

If you have any questions, please contact staff or me. Thank you and stay safe.
