RESOURCES
An excellent resource for families that include people with intellectual disabilities is: www.ConnectABILITY.ca.

This is a site that benefits not only the individual supported but also the family and eventually the community. It is geared to include ALL ages - youth, adults and seniors.

Resources are provided that can be accessed anywhere in the province of Ontario. For example: under Connectability - Seniors - there is a listing: ‘Meaningful Activities’.

Why not visit this site and find inspiration from the offerings of our area and of the province of Ontario? If something isn’t available in our area maybe the other area offerings will spark your imagination? Why not explore the possibilities? By bringing these ideas forward you have the potential to create the same opportunities for your family member.

Ensemble listens to families. Change and resulting possibilities can occur but you as families have to take the first step.

Research available resources and share your wish list with Ensemble. Together - “ ENSEMBLE “ - anything is possible.

Enjoy a day of possibilities!

Staying Healthy Throughout the Summer
Summer Food Safety
Many Canadians love to barbecue, especially when the weather starts to get warm. As with any type of cooking, it's important to follow safe food handling guidelines to prevent harmful bacteria from spreading and causing foodborne illness.

It is important to know and follow the following food safety rules when preparing for a picnic or barbeque:
  • Use an insulated cooler instead of a picnic basket.
  • Keep food in the fridge until you are ready to pack it in the cooler.
  • Pack frozen food and ice packs on top of food.
  • Wrap hot foods in foil and keep in a separate insulated container.
  • Pack sanitizing wipes for hand washing when water is not available.
  • Do not store coolers in the trunk as the temperature is much higher than the passenger part of the vehicle.
  • Eat before the warm weather melts the ice in the cooler.
  • Keep the cooler in the shade when you are outside and try not to open the cooler too often.
  • When you are done eating, throw leftovers away if possible.

For more information on safe food handling, please follow the link below.
