Benefits of a Toastmasters Membership
Greetings Toastmasters of District 65,
We have just renewed our Toastmasters dues for another six months. Have you thought about your #MyWhy? Why did you join Toastmasters and why do you stay in Toastmasters? This year I will be starting my 20th year as a member. The reason I stay in Toastmasters is not the reason that I joined Toastmasters. I never thought that I would gain so many skills that would help me in my everyday life. It has transformed me from the person who I was into the person who I am today.
I never thought of myself as a leader. I was encouraged and appointed for my first district leadership roles. I have now served in 9 leadership roles and have learned so much about myself and others. I am a more patient person who listens better. I love everything that this organization does to teach us how to be better in every way.
My parenting skills improved when I learned how to evaluate. Toastmasters teaches us to give praise when providing feedback on how to improve. When I used this method on my daughter, the dynamic between us changed. It was that easy.
My relationships improved with others when I started to listen more and speak less.
How has Toastmasters changed your life? I am sure after some reflection, you will see some patterns have changed for the better.

We have two months left of this program and it is so important that each club does what it can do to end this year strong.
We have marketing materials for you! All you need to do is request it and provide an address for me to ship it! The materials are useful for you when you hold an Open House.
Clubs who hold Open Houses will be incentivized to hold up to 3 Open Houses for a Gift Certificate of $25 per Open House. They must follow the Open House Incentive Guidelines.
Clubs will receive Promotional Welcome Ribbons for every New Member who joined their club this program year! Inform Kate Olsen the names of the new members of your club for this Program Year 2022-2023.
We will continue to mail the Pathways ribbons to the members who achieved a level in their Path. We have ordered the Level 5 Proficiency Ribbons and will mail them to the clubs when they arrive.
This means members should submit their levels in their paths (both in basecamp and in club central) so they can be recognized by their club and district. To be recognized, a member must have their Privacy Setting: Name of Public Records set as Yes.
OPEN HOUSE INCENTIVE January 1- May 15, 2023
The District 65 Leaders believe that it is important for all our clubs to work on membership building.
We have decided to incentivize all clubs to hold three OPEN Houses between January 1, 2023, and May 15, 2023.
For each Open House a club holds in District 65, they will receive a $25 TI Gift Certificate.
Please send the following information after you have held your Open House to District Director, Kate Olsen, at klolsen@rochester.rr.com in one email communication.
1. Club must show proof of advertisement.
2. Provide date of event
3. Club name and Club number
4. Name and address of member who the certificate is to be mailed.
5. Number of guests and new members from event
Last date to submit information is May 31, 2023 for the Open House Incentives.
Have you thought of holding a Speak-a-thon? Advertise it as a membership building event so that non-members can come to see your clubs’ talents and get your members to speak at the same time. You get credit for a creative Open House and maybe earn some DCP Goals at the same time?
We hope that if each club participates in these initiatives, they may end the year stronger.
Best wishes for a robust finish for the year 2022-2023 program year!
Kate Olsen, DTM, PDG

Beat the Clock
Program Dates: May 1 – June 30
Toastmasters are taught to run meetings on time, finish speeches on time and reach membership goals on time. In that spirit, Beat the Clock is a great motivator for finishing the year on schedule—on time and with record numbers!
Make it your club’s goal to earn the Beat the Clock award and encourage every member to take part. Clubs adding five new, dual, or reinstated members with a join date between May 1 and June 30 receive a Beat the Clock ribbon to display on the club’s banner. Qualifying clubs also earn a special discount code for 10% off their next club order.
Applications and payments for members with a join date between May 1 and June 30 must be received at World Headquarters or online no later than June 30. The addition of transfer and charter members does not count toward Beat the Clock credit.
Clubs who earn 2023 Beat the Clock and notify District Director Kate Olsen, DTM, @ klolsen@rochester.rr.com by June 30, 2023, will receive a $50 TI Gift Certificate and 5 Promotional Welcome Ribbons when they send the 5 names in an email. Include the name of the officer and address that the TI Gift Certificate is mailed along with the ribbons.

Pat Panfile - Ben Luce Award
The Pat Panfile-Ben Luce Award is considered by many to be the most prestigious award given to a Toastmaster in District 65.
The award is generally given to a Toastmaster who has shown exemplary leadership in organizing, communicating, executing, and spreading the benefits of the Toastmasters program, both within as well as outside the Toastmasters organization. In addition, the award recipient must demonstrate excellent communication skills in all aspects of the Toastmasters program.
The Ben Luce award was first given posthumously to the widow of Mr. Ben Luce, DTM, PDG, in 1975. A year later in 1976, the Ben Luce award was given to Mr. Pat Panfile, DTM, PDG, PID, PIP. In 2005, it was renamed the Pat Panfile-Ben Luce Award.
A great majority of the recipients are either DTMs or Past District Governors/Directors, or both.
This year's recipient is Dan Ferens of Select Toastmasters Club.

Dear Patty
Dear Patty,
I have been a faithful attendee at all of the Pathways Committee presentations, especially the one in March entitled Pathways: From Start to Finish. I enjoy Keith Flint’s explanation of how to record the progress of my members every time I hear it; however, I fail to process it when I go in as VPE.
Do you have something to help me that I can keep beside me when I go through the process? Somehow, I miss steps, and nothing goes through. As a result, the dashboard shows no educational awards for us.
What do you recommend?

Hi Frustrated Frank,
I feel your pain. In our early stages as a committee, we developed a Base Camp Manager Checklist. Please request your copy at D65Pathways@gmail.com.
The committee is more than willing to step you through the process on a one-on-one basis. We have found that support through a video conference format provides the best explanation. The Pathways Committee members will be able to answer any questions and possibly identify what the step is that you miss each time.
Let us help erase some of your frustrations,
Patty
