Poultry Home Remedies - What you Should & Should Not Do
There is a lot of information on the internet on how to deal with injured or sick chickens. Some of the information is good but some not so good. Alicia Halbritter, from the Baker County Extension office in Florida, will discuss some of the different home remedies and which to avoid.

This workshop will be held virtually on June 1 at 3 p.m. Register to attend.
Growing Vegetables in Containers: Workshop for Beginner Gardeners
In this FREE workshop, participants will learn how to grow vegetables at home in containers. This is a hands-on workshop, and all participants will be provided with containers, soil, and plants to take home and grow!

  • June 10, 5:00-6:30 p.m. - Davidson County Extension Office, 301 E. Center St., Lexington
  • June 11, 5:00-6:30 p.m. - Memorial Park, Stadium Dr., Thomasville

Register by contacting Sam Boring, Horticulture Extension Agent, 336-242-2091.

Join us as we explore the basics of this exciting new frontier of grazing opportunities.

Davidson County Extension Master Gardener Program
Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers work with NC State Extension to provide gardeners with unbiased, science-based information on sustainable garden, lawn, and landscape practices.

Under the guidance of N.C. Cooperative Extension Agents, volunteers complete an intensive (but fun), hands-on training program, pass an examination, and complete a 40 hour internship with N.C. Cooperative Extension in Davidson County. To remain active in the program volunteers must log a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service and 10 hours of continuing education each year.

To help you decide if you should apply to become an Extension Master Gardener volunteer, consider these questions:
  • Do I want to learn more about growing many types of plants?
  • Am I eager to participate in a practical and intense training program?
  • Do I look forward to sharing my knowledge with people in my community?
  • Do I have enough time to attend training sessions and to serve as a volunteer?

No previous training is necessary to become an Extension Master Gardener volunteer, just a passion for gardening and a desire to volunteer in your community. Benefits of serving as an Extension Master Gardener volunteer include:
  • Learn from outstanding horticulture experts
  • Become knowledgeable and skilled in a variety gardening subjects
  • Teach others about sustainable gardens, lawns and landscapes
  • Help gardeners solve problems
  • Learn how to identify and diagnose common diseases and insects
  • Work with others who share your interests
  • Continue to learn through workshops, field trips, conferences, and hands-on training
  • Lead environmental education efforts in schools and neighborhoods
  • Transform yards, people and communities

There will be two informational sessions. They will be held July 22 and July 29 from 6-7 p.m. For more information, contact Sam Boring, 336-242-2091.

Visit NC Farms App
The Visit NC Farms Phone App, developed by the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, connects millions of North Carolina residents and visitors to farmers and local food.
