Electronics Recycling, Household Chemicals Collections
Long Grove residents have opportunities to recycle electronics throughout the year. All Lake County residents can use the SWALCO residential electronics drop-off locations, which are open year-round during their regularly scheduled operating times. Drop-offs are free of charge and no appointment is needed. Please refer to the Drop Off Locations page for a list of sites and hours. A limit of seven electronic items may be dropped off per visit. Click here for a list of acceptable and non-acceptable items. Hard drives and memory are shredded prior to being recycled. Information on how to wipe data from computers can be found by checking with the computer manufacturer.

Residents can also schedule appointments to drop off toxic and hazardous household chemicals at SWALCO's collection facility in Gurnee, open on Saturday, February 13 and Saturday, February 27, 2021. Materials accepted include flammable liquids, automotive fluids, garden chemicals, and medications. Appointments are required; click here for more information.
Village Approves Funds for Teasel Abatement
The Village Board approved a $10,000 grant for the Long Grove Park District to support continuing efforts to eradicate highly invasive teasel plants along Village, State and County roads in Long Grove, including Rt. 53, Rt. 83 and Rt. 22. The Park District will use the funds to contract professional services that specialize in invasive plant control. This is the third year the Village has provided funding for the eradication efforts, which are vital in maintaining native grasses and flowers that can otherwise be pushed out of their natural spaces by the aggressive species. Early spring is the ideal time to identify and spot-treat teasel, as it starts growing prior to when other plants green-up. Annual herbicide spot treatments are needed to continue depleting the teasel seed banks along roadways. Treated areas from previous years are seeing results; however, teasel seeds continue to be brought into the Village from mowing equipment, and naturally from winds. More information on controlling teasel can be found on the Park District website here.
