As our program year ramps up, our Board of Christian Education has approved a title change for our Head Teacher, Jen DiMarzio. She is now our Interim Director of Christian Education. Jen’s new title comes with additional hours and responsibilities. Please tell Jen “Thank you!” when you see her. We are blessed to have her help and leadership!

The HCC Senior High Youth Group will be collecting non-perishable items for the Hingham Food Pantry over the next two weeks. You can bring your items on Sundays 10/10 and 10/17 or contact Susanne in the office for alternative drop off days/times. This is a great chance for our youth to learn about hunger in our community and ways to alleviate it. Look for collection boxes in the narthex and Hale Fellowship Hall.

Items requested by the Pantry are: canned vegetables, canned fruit, crackers, cookies.

 JUNIOR CHOIR IN OCTOBER

We still need to be very careful with the kids, given the continued presence of COVID cases in the Hingham area. The plan is to follow safety guidelines for children by a) rehearsing OUTdoors whenever possible; and when b) rehearsing INdoors 1) providing as much air circulation as possible, 2) distancing the singers, 3) wearing masks and 4) keeping rehearsals shorter than in the past. NOT the preferred way to do it! But - operating with these guidelines, we want our families to feel comfortable with their children joining Jr. Choir this fall. We at HCC are working with the UCC and other organizations to help with the current crises in the world, including Afghan refugees, those affected by the recent earthquake and storm in Haiti, and those affected by Hurricane Ida. Members of our congregation have a personal connection to two Afghan refugee families who have recently arrived in the US. We will continue to keep you posted on how we can all help best serve those in need, locally and globally, with donations at (https://hccucc.com/online-giving/ (click Outreach under Donations) or writing a check to Hingham congregational church earmarked Outreach.

Fall is in the air, and we are starting to plan for November. GUILD Consignment Center Embraces Autumn

Wacky Wednesday returns on October 6. Come in and find a surprise “pop-up” sale in one department. The following week, Thanksgiving items will be accepted as of Tuesday, October 12. By the end of this month, we will begin to accept warmer clothing for chilly days ahead. Winter wear can be brought in (as consignment or as donation) on October 26. Make sure that these coats hats, mittens, boots and other sturdy garments are clean and in good repair. We are facing increased charges to dispose of unusable clothing, so check those buttons, snaps, and zippers carefully.

Payout for September will be available for consignors on Tuesday, October 5 and some outstanding credits for the abbreviated 2019-2020 season are also available. Please check on your account, as all 2019-20 payout must be picked up by October 30 so that we can reconcile our balance and begin anew.

We are looking for additional people to become certified food managers to help oversee events. The class is an online, video based format that is really interesting and easy to follow. Please contact Kit Schlosky at 781 915 7299 or knschlosky@gmail.com for more information.
