On Thursday, November 19, 2020, the Council will host a virtual conversation with respected political analyst Charlie Cook, the Editor & Publisher of The Cook Political Report, and Political Analyst for The National Journal Group. Charlie will share his insights and analysis of the 2020 Presidential election, as well as the outcomes of key Congressional races.

Policy Committees to Host Briefings on Federal Policy Outlook in 2021
|
Over the next two months, The New England Council's various Policy Committees will be hosting a series of "Post Election Policy Outlook" virtual meetings. Each of these programs will focus on a specific industry or issue area, and will feature presentations and briefings from Council members and other experts on the impact of the Presidential and Congressional election results on federal policy in 2021.
Several of these virtual meetings have already been confirmed (see below), and others will be announced in the coming days and weeks. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Council's Policy Staff. |

T he NEC Transportation & Infrastructure Committee will host a Post Election Policy Outlook virtual meeting featuring presentations from former Representative Michael Capuano, Director of Public Affairs at Foley & Lardner, and former Representative Frank Guinta, Senior Vice President at ML Strategies. Post Election Policy Outlook: Trade
|
The NEC Trade Working Group will host a Post Election Policy Outlook virtual meeting featuring presentations by Nasim Fussell, Partner at Holland & Knight, and working group chair Viji Rangaswami, Vice President of Federal Affairs at Liberty Mutual. In addition to their current roles, Ms. Fussell and Ms. Rangaswami also bring experience working on trade policy on Capitol Hill. Ms. Fussell previously served as chief international trade counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, and Ms. Rangaswami previously served as staff director for the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee's Trade Subcommittee. Bipartisan Bill Would Expand Access to Telehealth During Emergency
|
The Council recently wrote to the New England Senate delegation to express its support for the TREAT Act (S. 4421), a bipartisan bill introduced by Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT). The Temporary Reciprocity to Ensure Access to Treatment (TREAT) Act would provide a temporary licensing reciprocity for all licensed and certified practitioners or professionals (those who treat physical and mental health conditions) in all states for all types of services (in-person and telehealth) during the COVID-19 response and for a comparable future national emergency. The Council's support for this legislation comes following a briefing for the Healthcare and Higher Education Committees by Senator Murphy's' staff last month. The Council is considering endorsing the bill, and the purpose of the meeting is provide interested members with more information on the legislation.
