A Message from the Principal
May 24, 2021

Parents and Guardians,

I have to admit I have mixed emotions as we enter this final week of school. I am excited for our graduating seniors, and yet I am sad that they are moving on from LHS. On behalf of the staff here at LHS, we truly hope great things for all our seniors as they transition into a new phase of their lives. We also want to invite you to join us for our Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony that will take place this Saturday, May 29th at 10 a.m. in the Allen Event Center.

Tomorrow our underclassmen will begin taking their Final Exams and will continue each day through Friday. Don't forget that Tuesday through Friday this week are early release days. Students will be dismissed for lunch at 12:00 p.m. and can leave at that time if they have transportation. Students who ride a bus will eat lunch from 12:00 - 12:40 on Tuesday through Thursday with bus service at 12:40. Friday is a district early release day so bus service will run at 1:00.

This Friday, we also invite you to join us at 10:30 am for our Senior Walk in the LHS Courtyard. This is a fun event where Senior students will take a final walk through the building and will exit into the courtyard where parents and our community will gather to cheer them on. It is a great celebration and we would love for you to join us if you can.

Beginning next Tuesday, LHS will begin observing our summer building hours. LHS will be open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We will resume a Monday through Friday schedule in August.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield

Medications
If your child has medicine at school, please make sure your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year. You are responsible for picking up any extra medicine as the school district has a policy against sending medicines home with students. At the end of this school year, any remaining medicines, including inhalers, will be thrown out. The school cannot store these for you during the summer. Please make an appointment with the nurse to pick up medication.

Texas Education Agency Parent Survey for Lovejoy High School
CTE Programs
Each year, the Division of Special Populations Monitoring at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Methods of Administration program (MOA) conducts reviews of access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in districts across the state. This year Lovejoy ISD was chosen as one of those districts.

As part of the review, parents and students are asked to take part in a survey to better understand how students of varying races, color, nation of origin, home language, ethnicity, sex, and disabilities are treated and served, particularly in CTE classes, by the district.

Attached below is a letter to LISD parents that explains the purpose of the survey as well as providing a link to access it. Also, parents of students in CTE programs will receive an email from their child’s teacher next week asking if they will provide consent for their student to complete a similar survey.

The surveys will remain open until June 7, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.

Practice ACT Exams

This is a great chance to get started on your testing plan, or if you have already started, it will provide additional practice. Taking practice tests under timed conditions is essential to being ready for the official test. A proctored practice exam will help your child build testing endurance and give a real-time snapshot of his or her testing performance.

Dates:   Saturday, June 5, 2021 (ACT)
             Saturday, June 26, 2021 (ACT)
Time:   8:00am – 12:00pm (Live Online)
Materials will be emailed to students 24 hours before the exam.

Every exam comes with a free 30-minute score report review with Revolution Prep’s testing expert to assess specific strengths and areas of improvement. We highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity. Schedule your consultation to review the score report with our school’s dedicated advisor, Jayme Wakefield, who will help you interpret the results and develop a customized plan to prepare for the official exam. Varsity Softball Defeats Sulphur Springs for a
Regional Semifinal Championship

Our Softball girls played an outstanding 2 game series this past week. In Game 1 on Wednesday night Jade Owens pitched a one hit shutout to lead the Leopards to a 7-0 WIN. Skylar Rucker set the tone of the game with a lead off triple. Hannah Harvey went deep in the 3rd inning, going 2 for 4 in the night with 2 RBI’s. Bailey Bradshaw went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and was on fire this weekend going 4 for 6 and making miraculous plays on defense as well. In Game 2 Thursday night we advanced on a walk off base hit by Jade Owens, bringing in Hannah Harvey in extra innings to close out the series in a 3-2 Game 2 ballgame. These girls have been RELENTLESS all year long and on Thursday night they showed just that. Leopards Advance to THE REGIONAL FINAL (ELITE 8).
REGIONAL FINAL SCHEDULE

GAME 1- WEDNESDAY 5/26 @ WHITEHOUSE IN TYLER HS 7:30PM
GAME 2- THURSDAY 5/27 @ ROCKWALL HS 7:30 PM
GAME 3- SATURDAY 5/29 @ WHITEHOUSE HS IN TYLER 6PM
Baseball Regional Semi-Finals this week!
The Varsity team advanced this week to the Regional Semi-Finals with a sweep over Prosper Rock Hill!  In addition, the team recorded its 30th win of the season. 30 wins for a year is a "magical number" for a baseball team. Let's take this thing to 32, 34, 35, and 36!

Regional Semi-Finals Schedule this week:

Game 1- Wednesday, 5/26 vs. Hallsville at Whitehouse High School- 7:30
Game 2- Thursday, 5/27 vs. Hallsville at Rockwall High School- 7:30
Game 3- Saturday, 5/29 vs. Hallsville at Mike Carter Field in Tyler- 6:00

Both Softball and Baseball are playing Hallsville this week at the same sites on Wednesday and Thursday! This should be a very cool experience and I expect extremely large crowds for all these games.  However, please spread the word to as many people as you know and let's fill up both complexes with Leopard Red, White, and Black!
