SPECIAL MUSIC

“Welcome!
We are so glad you are here!”

As we enter our church, as we live as members, as we experience important life-cycle events (falling in love, marrying, parenting, baptism, coming out, transitioning, etc.), words of welcome and support, understanding and love are what we all long for. This manifestation of God’s Extravagant Welcome and the justice and social witness that accompany it are the heart of what we hope to show our community and all who walk through the doors of Christ Congregational United Church of Christ.

PEACE BE WITH YOU!

June 2, 2023

Dear Congregation,

Grace and peace to each of you as we begin the new month of June.

I have some good news to share with you today! We have a new Church Secretary, Tracy Williams. She will begin working at CCC this Tuesday Her regular hours will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. She comes to us with much experience having worked in varied settings, including eleven years as a Patient Financial Advisor during the night shift in the Emergency Room at a Homestead Hospital.

Lorrie LeGrand and I very much enjoyed interviewing Tracy. I predict that she will be a real asset to the church. Stop by the office to say “hi” and introduce yourself. I’m sure you’ll enjoy getting to know her and will be greeted by her lovely smile.

June will be a busy month at CCC. Be sure to be present this Sunday as everyone is invited to help put together the Period Packs after worship. We received a $250 Matching Grant from Church World Service to buy materials for these necessities for women and girls.

Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. This is also Wear Orange Weekend to bring awareness to the gun violence crisis, so if you’d like, plan to wear orange on Sunday.

On June 11th there will be a Justice Luncheon after worship with Jennifer Solomon, President and Founder of PFLAG, Miami, as our speaker.

All month long is Gay Pride Month, so as an Open and Affirming Church, we celebrate our gay members and friends, and are their allies. Members Tracy and Jessica Nodarse, and Miriam Grissett participated in the Gay Pride Parade in Miami Beach recently, representing our church as allies of PFLAG.

I could add more, but count on you to pay attention to announcements in the worship bulletin and in our weekly e-blast.

Looking forward to being in worship with you in the Sanctuary or on Facebook as we celebrate Holy Communion together this Sunday.

   In Christ’s love,
   Pastor Candy

JUSTICE LUNCHEON on JUNE 11th

Our speaker will be Jennifer Solomon, founder and chair of PFLAG Miami. PFLAG is an organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Plan to stay after worship to hear actionable information on what’s being done in response to the egregious legislation recently enacted by the Florida legislature.

Global Ministries offers a weekly prayer for one of our global mission partners. This week's prayer is with Indonesia. To read their mission moment, please click the Global Ministries IMAGE. Below is this week's prayer, let us unite with Venezuela in praying.

Lord, our God who has created the earth and everything in it, including us humans who are born, grow up, and develop from and in different realities of life. Teach us to understand well what difference means and how to make sense of that difference in and through our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and life practices.

Teach us to be able to appreciate and be grateful for all the differences between us: ethnicity, race, culture, religion, generation, gender, and social status. Make us tools that are able not only to think and hope about the realization of justice but also to practice justice from within our families, our households, our communities, and to the people. May all of us, the people of Indonesia, be able to live in sisterhood and brotherhood and respect one another in love and peace.

We also pray for all preparations for the February 2024 general election. In the midst of hope for Indonesian leaders who have integrity for justice and truth, we sincerely ask for Your help. May Your Holy Spirit always work in everyone who thinks about and tries to fight for this.

We also pray for the issues of crimes against humanity that are currently taking place in Indonesia, such as the problem of human trafficking which is increasingly becoming a humanitarian emergency. Crimes are caused by weak education, poverty, and the weakness of law enforcement.

May God always hear the prayers of the victims and their families and all those who are working and trying to overcome this problem.

Lord, hear our prayer.

In Jesus Christ who is our Unifier, now and forever.
Amen.

PERIOD POVERTY AFFECTS MILLIONS OF
GIRLS & WOMEN

Providing free access to menstrual products affirms dignity, breaking down the shame and stigma surrounding periods. No one should have to choose between buying menstrual products instead of food or school supplies. Join us as we assemble Period Packs for sharing via Church World Service (CWS)

FOR THE LOVE OF CREATION,
GIVE US CLIMATE JUSTICE!

CLIMATE HOPE CARDS are an initiative of the UCC’s Environmental Justice Ministries. The postcards, which will be delivered to President Biden and EPA Admin Regan, call for the science-based pollution standards. Grab your postcard and pen from the Usher’s table at the entrance to the Sanctuary and during Fellowship hour. Please use the collection boxes provided in both locations to drop your postcard once it is signed.
