Neighborhood Revitalization Program launches in Mandan

At its May 16 meeting, the City Commission approved the launch of the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. The program offers assistance to foster the continued vibrancy of Mandan's core neighborhoods and empower homeowners to reinvest in their properties. The program establishes a means for homeowners to obtain low-interest home equity loans that are specifically intended to enhance and improve Mandan's current housing stock.

“I think it’s another tool in the toolbox to keep Mandan getting better and better every day, “ says Mayor Tim Helbling.

The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative is a collaborative effort between the City of Mandan and Gate City Bank. This program is not limited to Mandan alone, as Gate City Bank extends its services to other cities in North Dakota and central Minnesota. It is important to note that the partnership with Gate City Bank is not exclusive, and the City is open to considering collaborations with other financial institutions for similar partner initiatives.

Sixth Ave SE closing during evenings June 2-4

A section of Sixth Ave SE, just south of Main Street, will be closed for two 12-hour periods June 2-4. The closures will happen overnight, beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 2 through 8 a.m. Saturday, June 3, and again on June 3 at 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 4. The closures are necessary for BNSF to replace a fuel line on the south side of the railroad overpass over Sixth Ave SE.

Sixth Ave SE from Main Street to just north of Frontier Trail will be closed. This includes both the roadway and the pedestrian trail. Access to businesses and residential areas along Sixth Ave SE will remain open.

The City has been working with the contractor to try and keep the roadway open, but in order for the line to be replaced safely and efficiently a road closure is necessary. Emergency services approved of the request for the road closure, as long as one lane remains accessible for emergency response only.

DetoursTraffic can access Sixth Ave SE/Hwy 1806 S from Third Street, using Memorial Highway or 10th Ave West.

Where do grass clippings go?

Grass and leaves should be disposed of at one of the five grass collections sites provided by Mandan Public Works. Please do not place grass, leaves, lawn clippings or branches in residential garbage collection totes or commercial dumpsters.

The collections sites are located at:

  1. Old Red Trail & Hillside Rd NW (grass only)
  2. Mandan Brave Center, 901 Division Street NW (grass only)
  3. 8th Avenue SE & Hwy 1806 South (grass & branches under 4 inches in diameter)
  4. 24th Avenue SE & Longspur Drive (grass only)
  5. McKenzie Dr SE & 34th Ave SE (grass only)

As a reminder, grass collection sites are for residents only. Contractors may dump at the landfill at no charge in the compost pile as long as the load is only grass, leaves or garden waste. Residents may also take grass clippings and branches to the landfill free of charge.
