Greetings South Ward Family,
This month has been an exciting time for Environmental Justice. On a Local Level, our partners, Weequahic Park Association and Clinton Hill Community Action supported Ironbound Community Corporation Clean Air March on November 10th to "Stop Dumping on Newark". Newark is overburdened with cumulative impacts of toxic pollution and a frack gas plant is unacceptable!
Also, on November 10th Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 274, which establishes an interim greenhouse gas reduction target of 50 percent below 2006 levels by 2030, strengthening New Jersey’s path to achieve an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Leveraging the proceeds from New Jersey’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), Governor Murphy also announced a $13.7 million investment in electric buses and trucks to reduce emissions and improve air quality in overburdened communities.
This means zero emission trucks and buses NOW, to keep our kids' lungs clear NOW, to create good jobs NOW, and to stop extreme weather NOW.
The Sout Ward and Newark can't afford incremental change, we can't be patient, we have to do better not only in our community but worldwide.
It might not be easy but we must unite and do this. We must for our future children, grandchildren and their children.
Let's go, Mighty South Ward!
One Ward, United for Environmental Justice.
In Solidarity...
