Nutrient Management
The University of Maryland Extension's Agricultural Nutrient Management Program (NMP), which is a component of the University of Maryland's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, focuses on balancing nutrient applications with crop requirements to optimize crop production while reducing pollution to the Chesapeake Bay.
The University of Maryland Extension Nutrient Management Program assists farmers with the Water Quality Act created to protect the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries by applying fertilizers, animal manure, and other nutrient sources in an effective and environmentally sound manner.

Farmers are required to have an up-to-date nutrient management plan written by a licensed planner. There are private consultants available to write plans for a fee, or free plans can be generated through the University of Maryland Extension. Contact your Extension office for more information on getting a nutrient management plan written.

Watershed Protection and Restoration Program
Improving water quality through stormwater management and watershed restoration techniques, the Sea Grant Watershed Protection and Restoration Program works with local and state governments, watershed organizations, and community groups in Maryland to build partnerships, identify funding sources, and advise/assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of restoration projects.
The WSA program trains adult community leaders in ways to reduce polluted stormwater runoff and improve local water quality. If you would like more information about the program, visit https://extension.umd.edu/locations/cecil-county/environment-and-natural-resources
