Cornwall Library Newsletter September 2020
September is Library Card Sign-up month. As we all work to help our kids adapt to a hybrid education model, I want to remind folks that a library card is the most essential school supply of all! Library resources serve students of all ages, from early literacy to STEAM programs to research databases. Signing up for a library card is the first step on the path towards academic achievement and lifelong learning. This year, DC’s Wonder Woman is embarking on a mission to champion the power of a library card as Library Card Sign-up Month Honorary Chair. To sign up for a library card, please visit our website. Just click on the “Services” tab and then “Get a Library Card.” You can even signup for a card online. Join Wonder Woman and get one during #LibraryCardSignupMonth this September!

The library Board and staff are currently working out the details of opening our building with limited service on September 8. Please check our website for more details. In the meantime, I hope you continue to take advantage of our curbside pickup service, which includes placing holds on materials, and appointments for copying, faxing, scanning and notary service. Of course, keep an eye on our Calendar of Events, as our programmers continue to plan a wide variety of virtual programming for both adults and kids!

The library kept young readers busy this summer with our Make-It Mondays grab-and-go craft projects. We continue to be inspired by the joy, energy and creativity of all of you. Keep crafting and creating!
Autumn StoryWalkⓇ

Sally McCabe, the smallest girl in the smallest grade, notices everything, including bullying on the playground. Is she brave enough to say something and will it even make a difference?

Walk the library grounds, stopping by each panel to read a portion of The Smallest Girl in the Smallest Grade by Justin Roberts & Christian Robinson. For added fun, see if you can complete our accompanying scavenger hunt.

Completed scavenger hunt sheets can be returned in the blue book drop and will be entered into a prize drawing. Don't forget to write write your name, age, and telephone number on the side!

The StoryWalkⓇ Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
Library Letters

Attention all kids (2-12yrs) who love receiving “snail mail.”  Send the Cornwall Public Library an email with your name & postal address, along with some fun information – your favorite food…or color… or animal…or a question you have…or a joke you heard (you get the point).  Then be on the lookout in your snail mailbox for a reply.  Emails can be sent to lfisher@rcls.org.  We would LOVE to hear from you!!
For Everyone
The library now subscribes to hoopla - a video streaming service that provides access to hundreds of thousands of digital items for free with your Cornwall Library card! Visit www.hoopladigital.com to get started!

Things to know: Patrons have a 5 item monthly limit for materials borrowed through hoopla. However, if 5 titles are not enough, right now they have made extra items available that don't count toward your limit. To access these, look for items in the "Bonus Borrows" collection.

Let us know if you have any questions or need a library card! For more information, please visit our hoopla webpage.

and Libby
Patrons can now access new titles through the library's digital magazine apps. Conde Nast Traveler, The Economist, New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Wired are now available! For more information on how to access digital magazines, please call the library or email cor@rcls.org.
