~~~ACADEMIC NEWS~~~
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We made it to the end of Quarter 1! Let's celebrate the many accomplishments of our school community! I am so proud of the work of students, families, faculty and staff that made this all possible:
- Deployment of laptops to all students and successful adoption of Canvas and Microsoft Teams
- Strong and consistent attendance for live classes
- Launch of virtual work for Corporate Work Study
- Virtual Parent-Teacher-Conferences and FAFSA nights
- Launch of a new Advisory program and curriculum
- Our first socially-distanced retreat for 9th grade
There are several opportunities for parent involvement listed below. If you have questions or are interested, please contact Kelly Flannigan at kellyflannigan@cristoreytc.org.

Semester 2 Committee: This group is examining potential hybrid models and making a recommendation whether to offer in-person classes for second semester. We would really like parent/guardian members on the committee as we make decisions.

PTA: We'd like to relaunch our PTA in virtual form and build on the successes of last year. The goal of the PTA is to organize parents in support the of students and school community. The focus and timing of the gatherings is decided by the group.

Town Halls: We want to have interactive discussions between school and families. If you are interested in planning the meetings to discuss the topics that you believe are the most critical, please join us!

Competing in fall sports: for soccer and volleyball, including an undefeated regular season for our boys' soccer team. Boys' soccer dedicated their play this year in tribute to David Ramos, Class of 2020.
The month of November in the Catholic Church to devoted to the memory of our lost loved ones. This includes the celebrations of All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and Día de Los Muertos. We will remember your families in loved ones in our community prayers this month. As we look to Thanksgiving, we give thanks for your partnership and the beauty, strength, and hope that is our Cristo Rey community.

NUTRITION DEPARTMENT
School year 2020-2021 Nutrition Services
We are still collecting Blue Forms (applications for educational benefits). Please mail them or drop them off as soon as possible. We can also receive them as a clear photo or scan (please make sure it is readable), email them to margaretschmidt@cristoreytc.org.
Even if you don't think you qualify, these forms are essential to other programs related to our school and we must collect one from every family annually.

~~~ TITLE ONE SERVICES ~~~
Earlier in October, you may have received information on Title services from Minneapolis Public Schools. Minneapolis Public Schools sent the letter to all students who are eligible for Title services, regardless of whether the student is enrolled in additional service.
We do have academic support classes in 9th grade through Title I. These classes are Principles of Math with Mr. O'Donnell and Art Through Social Action with Ms. Morris. The curriculum is aligned with the rest of the 9th grade standards but these classes have very small class sizes. Ms. Morris and Mr. O'Donnell also tutor students individually or in small groups in grades 10-12.
Title funding also supports part of the cost of two of our counselors, Mr. Junior Mora- Hammer and Ms. Mollie Merkel.
That is the counseling described in the letter. In practice, Mr. Junior Mora- Hammer or Ms. Mollie Merkel see students across all grades and for many reasons. All students can meet with any of our counselors and many choose to.
Students are certainly welcome to reach out for academic support or to meet with a counselor if the student or parent believes that would be helpful.

~~~~~CORPORATE WORK STUDY PROGRAM (CWSP)~~~~~
Dear Families,
As we approach the holiday season, take special note of when school breaks are scheduled.
· Thanksgiving Break: November 25-November 27 (no school or work)
· Winter Break: December 21-January 3 (no school or work)
If you are considering travel this season, please thoroughly review the CWSP workday calendar. Students are expected to attend each scheduled workday and class day. Please consult the Student/Parent Handbook for more specific parameters related to workday/school day attendance.
A few CWSP reminders:
· All students are expected to attend each workday
· Students are permitted one PTO day per semester. PTO must be approved by CWSP.
· Missed workdays beyond one PTO day require makeup time to be scheduled
· Travel requests that impact student attendance on their workday will NOT be approved
Take special note of Cristo Rey's COVID-19 policy:
Cristo Rey does not permit anyone to be present at Cristo Rey, or any Cristo Rey sponsored event (this includes CWSP) within 14 days after:
1) returning from outside the United States
2) exposure to any person from outside the United States
3) exposure to any person who has a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19
4) experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 symptoms
All missed workdays due to required quarantine because of travel during holiday break will be considered unexcused and violate CWSP's attendance policy.

Following our themes of Loving, Open to Growth, and Community, together in their small advisory teams, students prayed, played, and talked about our CRJ community.

STAIRSTEP FOUNDATION G.E.D REFERRAL PROGRAM
The StairStep Foundation is a faith-based organization that offer’s many programs that are for the betterment of oneself and the overall community providing access to better educational and economic outcomes. One of the programs that the StairStep Foundation provides is a referral program to community agencies offering courses geared towards receiving a General Education Diploma (G.E.D).
If you are looking for a G.E.D program that is near your home, offers additional programs such as; G.E.D. prep classes, group or individual tutoring, child care while in class, job training, employment readiness, and job placement, the StairStep Foundation can provide information to get you connected. Right now, all of the agencies that have G.E.D programs are offering virtual online courses.
The StairStep Foundation is primarily English speaking however, some of the agencies they partner with that provide G.E.D programs may be offered in other languages or have multilingual staff such as our neighbors Minneapolis Urban Ventures. Governor Walz announced that up to $100 million of funding will be allocated from the state’s COVID-19 Relief Fund to create a new housing assistance program to help renters that have fallen behind on rent and/or utilities due to COVID-19.

Estimados padres y tutores,
¡Hemos finalizado el primer trimestre! Celebremos los logros abundantes alcanzados por nuestra comunidad escolar. Estoy muy orgullosa de nuestros estudiantes, familias, el cuerpo docente y el personal que ha hecho posible todo esto:
· Entregamos laptops a todos los estudiantes y adoptamos con éxito los programas Canvas y Microsoft Teams.
· Logramos una asistencia sólida y consistente para las clases presenciales
· Lanzamos la opción de trabajo virtual para el Programa de trabajo y estudio
· Ofrecimos conferencias virtuales entre padres y maestros y noches FAFSA
· Lanzamos el nuevo Programa de asesoramiento y currículo
· Tuvimos nuestro primer retiro observando las normas de distanciamiento social para los estudiantes de noveno grado
· Competencias deportivas de otoño: de fútbol y voleibol, que incluyen una temporada invicta para el equipo de fútbol de varones, quien dedicó todos sus partidos en homenaje a la memoria de David Ramos, de la Clase 2020.

· Comité Semestre 2: Este grupo está evaluando modelos híbridos posibles y recomendará si ofreceremos o no clases en persona durante el segundo semestre. Nos gustaría contar con padres y tutores como miembros en este comité para tomar decisiones.
· PTA: Deseamos volver a lanzar PTA en forma virtual y construir sobre los logros del año pasado. El objetivo de la PTA es organizar a los padres para que apoyen a los estudiantes y la comunidad escolar. El grupo decide el enfoque y la frecuencia de las reuniones.
· Reuniones abiertas: Nos gustaría tener discusiones interactivas entre la escuela y las familias. Invitamos a que se sumen a todos aquellos interesados en planificar estas reuniones para conversar sobre temas que creen ser críticos.
Durante el mes de noviembre, la Iglesia católica conmemora la memoria de nuestros queridos difuntos. Esto incluye el Día de Todos los Santos, el Día de los Fieles Difuntos y el Día de los Muertos. Recordaremos a sus familias y a sus seres queridos en nuestras oraciones comunitarias este mes. Y en anticipación del Día de Acción de Gracias, les agradecemos por su colaboración y por la belleza, la fortaleza y la esperanza que forman parte de nuestra comunidad Cristo Rey.

~~~ INFORMACIÓN SOBRE LOS SERVICIOS DEL PROGRAMA "TITLE" ~~~
Es posible que hayan recibido información sobre los servicios del Programa Title de las escuelas públicas de Minneapolis. El distrito escolar de Minneapolis envió una carta a todos los estudiantes que reúnen los requisitos para recibir servicios del Programa Title, sin importar si el estudiante está inscripto en servicios adicionales.
Cristo Rey ofrece clases de apoyo académico a través de Title 1 para estudiantes de noveno grado. Estas clases son Principles of Math con el Sr. O'Donnell y Art Through Social Action con la Srta. Morris. El currículo se alinea a los demás estándares académicos de noveno grado, pero estas clases son más pequeñas, en cuanto a la cantidad de estudiantes. La Srta. ~~~~~~PROGRAMA DE TRABAJO Y ESTUDIO (CWSP)~~~~~
Estimadas familias,
Al acercarse la fecha de las fiestas de fin de año, por favor tomen nota especial de las fechas que hemos fijado para las vacaciones escolares.
• Día de Acción de gracias: 25 al 27 de noviembre (no hay clase y no se trabaja)
• Vacaciones de invierno: 21 de diciembre al 3 de enero (no hay clase y no se trabaja)
Recordatorios de CWSP:
· Todos los estudiantes deben asistir a cada día de trabajo.
· Los estudiantes tienen un día por semestre donde pueden estar ausentes con pago (PTO, por sus siglas en inglés). El día PTO debe estar autorizado por CWSP.
· Se deberá fijar una fecha para recuperar el día de trabajo si hay ausencias después del día PTO autorizado.
· No se aprobarán permisos para viajar cuando coincidan con los días de trabajo del estudiante.
Tomen nota especial de la política de Cristo Rey sobre el COVID-19;
Cristo Rey no permite que ninguna persona esté presente en Cristo Rey, o asista a un evento organizado por Cristo Rey (incluido CWSP) dentro de los 14 días siguientes a:
1) regresar a los Estados Unidos después de un viaje al extranjero.
2) haber estado expuesto a una persona que haya viajado desde el extranjero.
3) haber estado expuesto a una persona que se sospeche o se haya confirmado que padece COVID-19.
4) Tenga cualquiera de los síntomas de COVID-19.
Todas las ausencias de trabajo debido a cuarentenas obligatorias por haber viajado durante las vacaciones de fin de año se considerarán no excusadas y se considerarán un incumplimiento de la política de asistencia de CWSP.

Retiro de los estudiantes de noveno grado
La Clase 2024 participó de un retiro en Cristo Rey Jesuit High School el 30 de octubre, cumpliendo con las normas de distanciamiento social. Reunidos en sus equipos de consejería, los estudiantes oraron, jugaron y hablaron sobre la comunidad CRJ, en el marco del lema del retiro que fue “Amar, estar abiertos a crecer y a la comunidad”.
Agradecemos a nuestros líderes Ignite del grado 12, al cuerpo docente, al personal de la escuela y, en especial, al personal de mantenimiento que hizo posible este retiro para los estudiantes de noveno grado.

PROGRAMA de RECOMENDACIONES G.E.D de STAIRSTEP FOUNDATION
La organización StairStep Foundation es una organización basada en la fe que ofrece muchos programas para el mejoramiento personal y de la comunidad en general y proporciona acceso a mejores resultados educacionales y económicos. Uno de los programas ofrecidos por Stair Step Foundation es un programa que deriva a agencias de la comunidad donde se ofrecen cursos para obtener un Diploma de Educación General, lo que se conoce por las siglas en inglés G.E.D.
Si usted busca un programa para obtener su G.E.D. cerca de su hogar, u otros programas adicionales tales como clases de preparación para tomar el examen G.E.D, tutoría en grupo o instrucción individual, cuidado infantil mientras usted está en clase, capacitación laboral, preparación para el trabajo y servicios de colocación, StairStep Foundation ofrece información para conectarlo. Actualmente, todas las agencias que ofrecen programas para tomar el examen G.E.D. lo hacen en forma virtual.
StairStep Foundation ofrece programas en inglés, pero muchas de las agencias con las que se asocian para ofrecer programas G.E.D. pueden ofrecerlos en otros idiomas o cuentan con personal multilingüe, tales como nuestros vecinos, Minneapolis Urban Ventures.
