AVONDALE IN ACTION
A message from ASAP
Dear ASAP members and Avondale members,
The 2020 service project for ASAP was to collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House to be recycled. Many Avondale members joined us in our effort. Happily we collected 17.4 pounds for them to send to be recycled. We were able to help 4 families spend a night near their sick child in the hospital.
We want to start our collecting pop tabs again and ask Avondale members and friends to join us. It is so simple. MANY cans now have pop tabs on them. Just keep collecting till June which will be our next turn in date. We can easily exceed our 17 pounds if we all work together. You can turn your tabs in any time to the church office or call Brenda Coble  980-297-4997 for pick up arrangements.
May God continue to Bless Us All in 2021

A message from Roof Above
"Thank you so much for the Avondale Blessing Bags for our clients! Some of our guys were a little disappointed back in early December when they found out that there wouldn’t be a party because of COVID-19, so those gift bags really meant A LOT. I’m so happy that our clients could have a brighter holiday thanks to Avondale!"
Lunches for our Neighbors
Jan 26 & Feb 23
We need a few more hands for our mission project of lunches for our employed, homeless neighbors. Please take a look and sign-up! The "Lunch Leader" role involves getting the groceries (Mission will reimburse), leading the assembly, and taking the lunches over to the dorm in the Elizabeth neighborhood.

MLK National Holiday
"Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in celebrating and promoting the worth of every human being. In his pursuit of equal rights by nonviolent means, Dr. King encouraged diverse cultures to live together in a spirit of love, understanding and service to one another." - City of Charlotte
MLK Day of Service
Did you know that the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is an official day of service in addition to a day to celebrate the civil rights leader’s life and legacy? In 1994, Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service.
MLK Resources for a Day of Service
People of all ages can "make it a day on." The COVID-19 pandemic presents challenges for volunteering in person, but each of us can work for the dream - whether volunteering virtually or learning/doing something to support the worth of every human. Here are resources to help make it count:
-"Where Do We Go From Here? | Documentary Film Festival" free, 4-day event of film, music, and discussion by Standford University's The Martin Luther King, Jr.
