Claremont Conservation Commission Programing
The Claremont Conservation Commission has sponsored a series of programs in 2021.

River Restoration and Resilience: The City of Claremont, like many New England towns, is shaped by the health and ways of rivers. For Claremont, the Connecticut and Sugar Rivers are the largest, however every stream and drainage area is significant. How water moves and what it carries effects the quality of our water, maintaining of recreational activities, impacts of heavy rain, the health of our aquatic ecosystems, and much more.
In this series on Climate Change and Wildlife we are going to learn more about what impacts the health and adaptability of our water systems, and what is or can be done at both the city and household scale to improve its functioning.

Saturday, October 23, 1030-1130 AM, Zoom, Curious about what you can do at home to protect and restore clean water in your local rivers and lakes? Throughout New Hampshire, neighbors are creating rain gardens, setting up rain barrels, and using trenches and other simple techniques to prevent water pollution. Whether you live on the water or up the road, come learn how you can do your part. Lisa Loosigian, Soak up the rain NH

This program is partially funded by the New England Grassroots Environment Fund

Community-Based Crowdfunding Program Seeks Project Proposals
  • Do you have an incredible project just waiting to happen — one that would strengthen your business, our community, and the local economy — if only you had the funds to make it happen?
  • Is your business/organization a “social enterprise” that addresses social and/or environmental issues?
  • Will your project support community goals, while keeping to a budget of $15,000 or less?

If you said yes to these questions…THANK YOU! And please consider applying to launch a crowdfunding campaign with The Local Crowd!

The Local Crowd Upper Valley, a community-based crowdfunding program hosted by Vital Communities, invites emerging and established businesses based in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont to submit project proposals.

The Local Crowd Upper Valley will select up to six social enterprises to participate in this crowdfunding cohort, based on each project’s potential to positively impact their local economy and community. Accepted proposals will launch their campaigns in the winter or early spring.

While all for-profits, non-profits, and community initiatives are welcome to apply, projects based along the Route 11 Corridor of NH (this includes Claremont!) and Orange and Windsor Counties of VT will receive extra campaign support and resources — beyond what we currently provide to all The Local Crowd Upper Valley campaigns. Selected proposals from our target regions will receive a $500 stipend to produce a crowdfunding campaign video. Studies show that crowdfunding campaigns with videos raise four times more funds than campaigns without videos.

Find our application here. Applications are due before 5:00 p.m. on October 31, 2021. For more information, visit https://vitalcommunities.org/rfptlc or contact Jen Risley at 603-283-5401.
Childcare in the Upper Valley: Challenges, Successes, and the Way Forward
Free and virtual

Upper Valley employers and families both name access to high-quality, affordable childcare as one of the key barriers to prosperity in our region, especially for low- and moderate-income families. How can we increase childcare access and affordability in the Upper Valley so our families and workplaces can thrive?

That topic will be explored in depth in this free, public, two-part virtual symposium for employers, policymakers, providers, parents, and others. Be a part of creating better, more equitable childcare for all Upper Valley residents and businesses!

Hosted by Vital Communities in partnership with the Corporate Council, Municipal Leaders, the Early Care and Education Association of the Upper Valley, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and the Couch Family Foundation.
