SIT Shortages - Communication is Key

As a reminder, SIT availability during peak season is limited. Make sure to contact the destination agent listed on our BL, 7 to 10 days prior to sending the driver there for SIT. For Monday deliveries, contact should be made no later than Monday of the prior week. Destination agents need as much advance notice as possible in order to accept deliveries into storage without delaying drivers.

To expedite the clearing process into SIT, advise of your origin weights within 3 days of pickup. In addition, it is the hauler's responsibility to reweigh a shipment. Review your paperwork to determine if a reweigh is required and perform as close to the destination as possible.

Don’t always assume SIT is needed - you can contact our office or the customer with a current ETA and check on customer availability to accept a direct delivery. Haulers should keep NFC posted on current ETAs, and direct deliveries that may have occurred so that we can update DPS.

If an agent cannot accept SIT, contact NFC Operations at 800-722-9144, ASAP so we can assist with finding another agent in the area. When you call, be prepared to provide the driver's name, phone and whether they will need labor.

Thank you very much for all your hard work and cooperation this peak season. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
