On 18 July 2022, Venezuelan authorities announced that a terrorist attack was launched against a natural gas pipeline operated by the state oil company, PDVSA in Monagas state. However, there was no specification made as to which terrorist group might have carried out the attack. A huge blaze developed following attack, but was reported as being under control by the joint effort of PDVSA workers, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), technical personnel and firefighters.
A day later, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) First Vice-President, Diosdado Cabello, blamed the United States for the attack to the Monagas state pipeline, saying that at least two Americans with a map of the refinery had been captured while they were about to carry out the attack. However, Cabello gave no further details about those detentions and it should also be noted that Venezuela doesn't really invest in their own infrastructure and many of the oil pipeline facilities are often in disrepair.
