The American Council of Learned Societies invites Fellowship research proposals from scholars in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. The ultimate goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work by the applicant, which can take the form of a monograph, articles, digital research project, critical edition, or other scholarly resources.
|
|
The National Endowment for the Humanities’, or NEH, Summer Stipends program serves to stimulate new research and publication in the humanities by providing two months of continuous, full-time support to work on a humanities project. NEH funds may support a recipient’s compensation, travel, and other costs related to the proposed scholarly research.
If you are tenured or in a tenure track position, you must be nominated to apply for this program. NEH limits these nominations to two per institution. If you are interested in being nominated, you must notify the Office of Research Development with the project working title and a short, two or three sentence synopsis of your project by 5 p.m. on August 5, 2022 via ordlimitedsubs@k-state.edu. If more than two faculty members are interested, then an internal competition will be necessary with a preproposal due to ORD by 5 p.m. on August 22, 2022. If you are in a non-tenure track position, you do not need to be nominated to submit.

National Postdoc Association
|
|
The National Postdoctoral Association, or NPA, is a non-profit 501(c)3 educational organization that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of the postdoctoral experience for all participants in the United States. Since its founding in 2003, more than 160 institutions have adopted portions of the NPA’s Recommendations for Postdoctoral Policies and Practices. Today the NPA has 180 institutional members, whose research efforts are supported by 40,000 postdocs, and 2,000 individual members.
K-State is an institutional member and every September our Office of Research Development, or ORD, coordinates with NPA to host National Postdoc Appreciation Week activities on our campus. This year the festivities will take place September 19-23. Look for more information in Research Weekly on the exact events taking place at K-State. See more information regarding the national activities on NPA’s National Postdoc Appreciation Week website.
NPA provides professional development opportunities as well as career resources to help postdocs with job hunting. The Association also publishes a quarterly newsletter covering news items and features of interest to the postdoctoral community that is available on the NPA publications website. NPA also hosts a library with reports and other documents to help postdocs with such things as advocacy, tax issues, loan repayment and juggling parenthood. Because K-State is an institutional member, all of our postdocs can join NPA for free, but you must sign up at the NPA individual member website.
Note: ORD is looking for postdocs to help with this year’s Postdoc Appreciation Week. If you are interested, please contact Michelle Langvardt.

|
|
The Alan T. Waterman Award is the nation's highest honor for early-career scientists and engineers. In addition to a medal, the awardee receives a grant of $1,000,000 over a five-year period for scientific research or advanced study in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, social or other sciences at an institution of their choice. Starting July 18 through September 16, 2022, NSF is accepting nominations for this award. Self-nominations are not allowed.
Nominees must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be 40 years of age or younger OR not be more than 10 years beyond Ph.D. receipt by December 31, 2022. The ERC program supports high-risk, high-payoff research centers focused on advancing engineered systems technology and education through multidisciplinary, cross-sector partnerships.
This virtual session will provide a brief overview of key FAQs and focus primarily on answering attendee questions. Attendees are encouraged to watch the June 27 webinar recording (which will not be replayed during this second event) and come with questions prepared!
ERC Program Consultation Scheduling
The ERC program team is providing 20-minute timeslots for optional preliminary proposal consultations. This consultation is not intended to evaluate technical ideas, but to address program fit and other program-related questions.
Prior to the meeting, teams must provide two documents: a 1-page summary of the ERC concept and engineered system, and the accompanying 3-plane chart. These documents should be emailed to nsferc@nsf.gov.

Sign up for the Frontiers Mock Study Section this fall
|
|
This fall, Frontiers will begin offering pre-submission review of NIH grant proposals through our mock study section. The mock study section simulates the NIH peer review process and offers investigators a chance to receive feedback on an R or K-series grant proposal before submitting the final application. Each application submitted to the mock study section will receive preliminary scores and written critiques from three reviewers with relevant expertise. Final scores will be assigned and returned to the applicant following discussion at the mock study section meeting on November 29.
How do I request proposal review?
Please submit an online Letter of Intent Form by September 26. The letter of intent requires a draft “specific aims” page and a list of three suggested reviewers from Frontiers partner institutions who have appropriate expertise; additional reviewers from external institutions may also be included.
Eligible researchers will be asked to submit the narrative components of their grant application by the deadline in October. Visit the Frontiers Mock Study Section page for a detailed list of requirements and key dates.
Who is eligible?
This program is open to clinical and translational researchers at all Frontiers partner institutions. We welcome submissions from:
- Children’s Mercy Hospital
- Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences
- Kansas State University
- Saint Luke’s Health System
- University of Kansas Health System
- University of Kansas – Lawrence
- University of Kansas Medical Center
- University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita
- University of Missouri – Kansas City

|
Announcement of Opportunity for the fall 2022 award cycle under Universities Research Association’s, or URA, Visiting Scholars Program, or VSP. Proposals for this cycle are due Monday, August 29, 2022, and awards are anticipated to be announced at the end of September.
Individual proposals may be submitted by researchers who are faculty, postdocs, or graduate students at URA member universities. Researchers are defined as graduate students, postdocs, or faculty doing research in areas such as high energy physics experiments, astrophysics, theory, accelerator physics, engineering, materials science, computer science, quantum science and technology, and accelerator R&D, related to the Fermilab mission. Applicants must be employed by or, in the case of graduate students, enrolled at URA member institutions during the award term.
The URA Visiting Scholars Award Program is supported by contributions from the URA member universities. The VSP awards provide financial support for faculty and students from URA's member universities to work at Fermilab for periods of up to one year. URA makes two rounds of awards each year, in the spring and fall. The application deadline for the spring 2023 cycle is Monday, February 27, 2023.
