This month’s newsletter article will be a brief one. That is not to say that there is a shortage of news, but rather that there will be some associated items for your information and reading and viewing pleasure. At our October meeting the board passed the 2021-22 Advocacy Agenda, which I have written about previously. Our thanks go out to all the members and leaders who participated in the discussions which formulated this document. The document is intended to provide a statement to the Government Affairs Committee who advocate regularly with the state legislators and policy-makers to direct their efforts toward the issues that are important to the membership across the state. You may think that this does not dig deeper than it did on certain issues, but I would only re-iterate that this statement is a list of items that all members feel are important across the state. I urge you to continue to advocate for all issues that you feel are important for you locally. Local components should also provide their own list or statement regarding issues of importance locally. Most importantly, continue to establish relationships with your local lawmakers and urge them to support architecture. You can read the Advocacy Agenda HERE
Secondly the Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion committee held a panel discussion and town hall meeting at the annual AIA Michigan Leadership conference two weeks ago. The discussion was centered on efforts that have been taken by several Michigan firms across the state in reaction to EDI issues they felt were important. You can hear more about these examples by watching the discussion. Watch the Monday Minutes for the link.
