Tu'bishvat Virtual Seder
Wednesday, January 27th 7pm-8pm on ZOOM

Tu'bishvat (the 15th day of the month of Shevat) is the New Year of Trees. According to the Talmud, this day began a new accounting of the tithes placed on fruit trees in the land of Israel. In the 16th Century, the Kabbalists (Jewish mystics) created a ritual that infused new religious meaning into the agricultural date.
Using wine and the fruits of the land of Israel, the Tu'bishvat Seder became an intellectual and spiritual experience, exploring the Kabbalistic notions of God, nature, and human action in the world. In our time, the Tu'bishvat Seder has taken on a profound connection to the State of Israel, and to the Jewish conception of redemption.
Join Rabbi Gershon and Cantor Greenberg for our own virtual Tu'bishvat Seder, filled with prayer, learning, song and celebration.
To participate at home you will need:

1. White and red wine (or grape juices)

2. Various Fruits in the following categories:

Inedible outside, edible inside: orange, banana, walnut, almond, pomegranate.
Edible outside, inedible inside: Dates, olives, apricots, plums, cherry, mango, nectarine, olive, peach.
Entirely edible: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples, pear, carob, fig, grape, kiwi, kumquat, star fruit.
(you can just have one or two fruits in each category to eat, or of course as many as you like)

3. Wheat and barley (in the form of bread, cake or cereal)

Add to Our Tree of Life!

"IT IS A TREE OF LIFE TO THOSE WHO UPHOLD IT
-  Proverbs 3:18

What a thoughtful gift it is to share a Simcha by adding onto our NEW BRANCH! Thanks to all who added Leaves to our Tree in the past. Now we need to have more Simcha's added for our future.

"Do I have a deal for you!"  The cost of a Leaf is going up to $180.00, as of February 2, 2021. I extended the "special price"  in honor of Tu BiShevat. Between now and then you can buy the Leaves at $150.00 each.  You can buy and reserve them for future use at this price and they will say "RESERVED" until you use them.  You can use them now as a Tu BiShevat gift or for your family, new grandchild, special birthdays, anniversaries, etc.  "Give me a call and we will talk," 732-929-0545. The check is made out to Cong. B'nai Israel and sent to my home.

You get four lines and 29 spaces per line. One simcha per leaf.  TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OLD PRICE OF $150.00 BEFORE February 2. 2021. BEFORE IT GOES UP TO $180.00 EACH LEAF.  I am always willing to work on the wording with you.

With Blessings of Shalom,
Arlene Neugarten, Tree of Life Chairperson

It is never too early to plan for Purim!

The Purim Extravaganza of 2020 was the last event to take place in the synagogue before COVID. Those who attended cannot forget our clergy and members dressed as characters from Star Wars. The Force was with us as we drank, ate and were entertained. What wonderful memories! Sadly, we cannot be together this year, however, we can celebrate the spirit of Purim through the sending of Shalach Manot baskets. Purim this year is February 26th, so participate in the mitzvah and send your basket today.  The deadline to order is February 10th.
