YMCA OF THE FOOTHILLS | JAN 2021
HAPPY NEW YEAR
2020 was a year of loss, rebirth, and growth for our YMCA. Throughout our history, our Y has shown the ability to reinvent itself to meet the ever-changing needs of our service area. We launched our mission into action as we committed ourselves to “stepping into the breach” and serving our expanding community in new and innovative ways. All of that work could not have been done, at least to the depth it was, without your ongoing support through membership fees, annual campaign support, and volunteering. It is not hyperbole when I say we couldn’t have accomplished what we did this year without your support. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

While we look to kick-off our most advantageous member outreach initiative in our history on January 1, 2021: Your Y Your Way, we have been busy at work creating a streaming/virtual platform to engage our membership bringing mobile access to our group exercise classes, programs and services and building the concept of “a Y without walls” meeting the members of our service area where they are. We are so excited to provide this type of access to our members. We have also continued to improve and reinvest in our outdoor fitness and cardio center at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, by winterizing and heating our “open air-nasium” so that our members can continue to pursue health goals over the winter months.

It is also amazing to look back at everything we accomplished this past year. With your support, our Y awarded $340,000 in membership scholarships giving the life-saving gift of access to health and wellness to those most in need. In addition to providing membership scholarships, out Y raised $626,000 in grants, annual support gifts, and event-based fundraising to increase our ability to impact every corner of our service area. Between membership scholarships and annual gifts, a total of $966,000 was raised to improve the lives of the most in need!
This year our Y positively impacted the lives of 45,626 members, participants, or community partners in a service area of 193,500 people. Whether it was through feeding 8,500 meals to families in need with our partners at Glendale Community College, Keller Williams Realty, and the LA County Food Bank, donating hundreds of liters of life-saving blood through hosting our monthly blood drives with the American Red Cross and Huntington Hospital, or setting up a distance-learning hub for students to not miss critical school-time and that their parents can return to work, our Y helped to answer the call.

2020 will go down in the books as a year of change and growth for our Y, it was a privilege to walk alongside you every step of the journey. On behalf of my family, our Board of Directors, and our staff, I wish you and yours a healthy and prosperous new year. Always know that Your Y Your Way is here to serve you.
