COVID-19 UPDATE
Our current practices are as follows:

  • Masks must be worn inside the building.
  • Everyone who comes inside the building must be fully vaccinated if eligible. 
  • Proof of vaccination is required. Please provide it to us in advance or be prepared to present at the door. 
  • Only those who are fully vaccinated may come onto the bimah and/or participate in services.
  • Unvaccinated children may come into the sanctuary, provided they are masked and stay with their pod.
  • Please maintain physical distance from those outside of your pod.

Join Rabbi Silver to explore how an English poem dialogues with Jewish themes, in the poem and in our lives. This month’s poem is "The Journey" by Mary Oliver.

CLASSES JUST FOR YOU!
Wednesdays at 10 AM
“The Five Books of Miriam”
What if “He” i.e. God is a “She”? What if women were writing and interpreting the Torah, midrashim, etc. from the beginning? 
Join us on Wednesday mornings at 10 for lively teaching and discussion with Rabbi Silver of Ellen Frankel's book The Five Books of Miriam: A Woman's Commentary on the Torah.

Good Lookin’ Cookin’

A volunteer Chef du Jour will teach us how to prepare old and new favorites including entrees, desserts, veges, etc. Helpful tips and conversation round out each session.  
 
Ingredient lists will be e-mailed several days in advance so you will be able to purchase ingredients and prepare the dishes in real time. Voila! Sunday's tasty dinner will be prepared and ready to be eaten!

Louisiana Jewish Coalition returns with
Looking Toward the Future
Originally scheduled for August 29 (and postponed because of Hurricane Ida), the third installment of the Louisiana Jewish Coalition's webinar series, "Looking Toward the Future," has been rescheduled for Sunday, November 28 at 10:00 a.m.

ADL's Southern Division Director of Community Engagement, Aaron Ahlquist, will guide a candid discussion between Israeli and Palestinian Parents Circle participants Rami Elhanan and Laila Alsheikh, followed by a journalistic perspective from Herb Keinon of The Jerusalem Post.
Come celebrate Chanukah at the JCC with holiday treats and a live concert by The Maccabeats! Popular with all ages, The Maccabeats are a premier a cappella group and YouTube sensation known for their beautiful harmonies, catchy rhythms, and creative lyrics and videos. We are thrilled to have them return to the Uptown JCC on Sunday, November 28 for this fun, family-friendly celebration out back on Bart Field. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., this event is free and open to the community but advance registration is required. Sign up at nojcc.org to join the waitlist. As long as weather allows the event to remain outside, everyone on the waitlist will be welcome to attend. Proof of vaccination is required for all guests ages 12 and older. 
The New Orleans Jewish Community Center is seeking an experienced, creative, and outgoing individual to play a key role in organizing and coordinating the local Big Easy BBYO chapter as the primary offering by the JCC for teen engagement. The JCC strives to provide an inlusive, fun, safe, stimulating, and supportive environment for all teens. We are leaders, mentors, advocates, and positive role models enabling youth to grow, develop a positive sense of self, and a lifelong commitment to the community. This is a part time position at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center.

If you are at all interested in applying or think you would be a good fit please take a look at the application! We really value the BBYO community here in New Orleans, even if we are small.
