Friends of the Gateway Region, I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday — we at VGR are so thankful for the efforts each of your organizations make in uniting our region for economic prosperity.
One objective the VGR Team has been discussing recently is to build a more intentional entrepreneurial ecosystem in our region. We had engaging conversations in November about this with Startup Virginia, the Longwood Small Business Development Center and Activation Capital.
Every quarter, the Civilian Military Council promotes cooperation, understanding and communication between Fort Lee and local communities. This quarter, I attended the Council's luncheon at Keystone Grille in Colonial Heights. The event brings together the Army post’s military and civilian leaders with representatives from city governments, schools, businesses, law enforcement and firefighters from across the Gateway Region.
I continue to speak during public comment periods at local government meetings around the region regarding the Regional Industrial Facilities Authority, or RIFA. The creation of a RIFA provides a mechanism for VGR’s Member Localities to cooperate in the development and revenue sharing of facilities in the region. This allows localities to combine resources and assets for the purpose of economic development and revenue sharing. A video of my presentation to the Prince George County Board of Supervisors in November can be found at the 10:40 mark in the video by clicking here.
