Every Veteran has earned this Nation's permanent gratitude:

Thank a Veteran today!

Whether you volunteered or were drafted, whether you were overseas or stateside, whether you served on a ship, land or air, if you were a bombardier, repaired aircraft or provided sustenance to the troops while on K.P, I know I speak for everyone when I say that we are incredibly grateful for the sacrifices you made in your lives to keep us safe and our country free.

Many of you were practically babies at 18 or 19 years old; surviving basic training and beyond with conditions that were difficult and lonely. You didn’t know if you would ever see your parents again or get married or have families. You are all heroes; those who had engaged in active combat and those who did not.

General Colin Powell, who passed away this month, put it best: "The nation owes a great debt to its veterans, whose service to the nation spans every decade, every year, every day of our country's existence. Through untold courage and sacrifice, America’s veterans have secured the liberty which the founding fathers sought to establish here in the new world. Whenever and wherever the nation has called -- in times of darkness and danger as well as in times of peace and prosperity -- America's veterans have been there. Veterans have proudly carried the torch of liberty for all to see." [You can read the rest of General Powell's 1989 Veterans Day remarks.]

This day is largely intended to thank all veterans but is it especially important for living Veterans to honor them for their dedicated and loyal service to our country. We also solemnly respect and rightly honor those who have died for our country on this day.

Most years we have had a wonderful celebration here at the senior center in honor of Veterans and our members had an opportunity to thank each and everyone of you. This year we will be honoring Veterans outside their homes with a few surprises, as we did last year. If you've signed up with us for a visit, we cannot wait to see you and thank you! If you have not yet signed up, please reach out to Dawn Neglia to schedule a date that we can visit and thank you for your service (while supplies last)!

My Best,

Caryl

On another note:

Tuesday, December 21st is the first day of winter!

Do you know who’s shoveling your driveway? Please do not wait to make arrangements. We have identified one landscaper who has insurance to allow for residential snow removal and we are actively looking for other companies with this distinction so that we can pass this info on to you.
