Village of Whitefish Bay Official Weekly Newsletter

Message from the Village President, Kevin Buckley

Every year, the WFB Police Department compiles an annual report to showcase their efforts to keep our village safe. It's an interesting read, and can be viewed here.
For the curious, the North Shore Fire Department (NSFD) also puts out an annual report, found here.
You may notice that both reports are authored by Whitakers, with Patrick as our Police Chief and his brother Robert serving as the Fire Chief.
Have a great week! -kb

The Village of Whitefish Bay Public Works Department is under contract with Stark Pavement Corporation to complete Village pavement milling and repaving. The project will involve the grinding off 2 inches of asphalt or concrete pavement and then repaving with new asphalt pavement. Pavement marking will then be applied the week following the paving work.

This work is scheduled to begin Monday, May 15, 2023, weather permitting, with completion scheduled by late May or early June 2023, again weather dependent. There will be no assessment to any property owner for this work. Access to your property will be maintained throughout the project. Only while work is taking place directly in front of your driveway would your access be restricted or limited.

Please do not park your vehicles on the street within the project limits during this construction period.  All construction dumpsters or storage containers will also be required to be moved. The Whitefish Bay Police Department has been made aware of this project and the on street parking concerns. If needed, overnight parking permits may be obtained for free from Spencer Charczuk, Staff Engineer to allow for overnight parking on adjacent streets through the duration of this project.

Work hours for this project creating noise are limited to 7:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Saturday. The Public Works Department staff understands the inconvenience that this project may create for you and greatly appreciates your patience and understanding.

Please be careful, slow down and pay extra attention when driving around this and all construction zones.

Update from Public Works:

Public Works Week:

From street, sidewalk, and public park maintenance, to the sewer and water systems, and solid waste and recycling collection, the Public Works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens’ everyday lives. This week, we are honoring the many hardworking Public Works employees who help maintain these necessary facilities, programs, and services.

Today, the Village Board will pass and approve Resolution No. 3145, proclaiming Sunday, May 21–Saturday, May 27 as “Public Works Week” in the Village of Whitefish Bay. We call upon all community members and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing our Public Works services and to recognize the contributions which Whitefish Bay Public Works employees make every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.

If you see a Public Works employee around the Village this week and beyond, be sure to pass along a smile, a “thank you,” or a wave!

Racial segregation characterizes every metropolitan area in the U.S. and bears responsibility for our most serious social and economic problems. We’ve taken no serious steps to desegregate neighborhoods, however, because we are hobbled by a national myth that residential segregation is de facto—the result of private discrimination or personal choices that do not violate constitutional rights. The Color of Law demonstrates, however, that residential segregation was created by racially explicit and unconstitutional government policy.

Just Action describes how we can begin to address this, providing dozens of strategies local groups can pursue to redress segregation in their own communities. By starting with achievable local victories, we can build a national movement that can remedy our unconstitutional racial landscape.
