Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Where cross the crowded ways of life,
where sound the cries of race and clan,
above the noise of selfish strife,
we hear your voice, O Son of man.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
From tender childhood's helplessness,
from woman's grief, man's burdened toil,
from famished souls, from sorrow's stress,
your heart has never known recoil.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The cup of water given for you still
holds the freshness of your grace;
yet long these multitudes to view
the sweet compassion of your face.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Till all the world shall learn your love
and follow where your feet have trod,
till, glorious from your heaven above,
shall come the city of our God!

 We Grow Through the Spoken Word

*Affirmation of Faith        The Apostles' Creed
 I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
On the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.

 Pastoral Prayer and The Lord's Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us,
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen

Response
Lord, may our prayer rise like incense in your sight,
May this place be filled with the fragrance of Christ. Amen.

 *Presentation and Doxology
 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Bring Forth the Kingdom
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You are salt for the earth, O people:
Salt for the Kingdom of God!
Share the flavor of life, O people:
Life in the Kingdom of God!

Bring forth the Kingdom of mercy,
Bring forth the Kingdom of peace;
Bring forth the Kingdom of justice,
Bring forth the City of God!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You are a light on the hill, O people:
Light for the City of God!
Shine so holy and bright, O people:
Shine for the Kingdom of God!

Bring forth the Kingdom of mercy,
Bring forth the Kingdom of peace;
Bring forth the Kingdom of justice,
Bring forth the City of God!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You are a seed of the Word, O people:
Bring forth the Kingdom of God!
Seeds of mercy and seeds of justice,
Grow in the Kingdom of God!

Bring forth the Kingdom of mercy,
Bring forth the Kingdom of peace;
Bring forth the Kingdom of justice,
Bring forth the City of God!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
We are a blest and a pilgrim people:
Bound for the Kingdom of God!
Love our journey and love our homeland:
Love is the Kingdom of God!

Bring forth the Kingdom of mercy,
Bring forth the Kingdom of peace;
Bring forth the Kingdom of justice,
Bring forth the City of God!

 Scripture Lesson            Galatians 6:1-10
Brothers and sisters, if a person is caught doing something wrong, you who are spiritual should restore someone like this with a spirit of gentleness. Watch out for yourselves so you won’t be tempted too. Carry each other’s burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are important when they aren’t, they’re fooling themselves. Each person should test their own work and be happy with doing a good job and not compare themselves with others. Each person will have to carry their own load.
Those who are taught the word should share all good things with their teacher. Make no mistake, God is not mocked. A person will harvest what they plant. Those who plant only for their own benefit will harvest devastation from their selfishness, but those who plant for the benefit of the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. 10 So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for those in the household of faith.

Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Forth in Thy Name, O Lord
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Forth in thy name, O Lord, I go,
my daily labor to pursue;
thee, only thee, resolved to know
in all I think or speak or do.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The task thy wisdom hath assigned,
O let me cheerfully fulfill;
in all my works thy presence find,
and prove thy good and perfect will.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thee may I set at my right hand,
whose eyes mine inmost substance see,
and labor on at thy command,
and offer all my works to thee.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
For thee delightfully employ
what e'er thy bounteous grace hath given;
and run my course with even joy,
and closely walk with thee to heaven.

Worship Last Sunday
Dear Church Family,

Grace and peace. Know that I am praying for you today. This is a long email but a good one to read through till the end.

Praise report! Check out these numbers from 2020!!!
  • Christmas Eve online worship – 1097 people!
  • Christmas Eve Drop In – 46 people!
  • Number of Pounds of Food in 2020 donated to I-58 from SUMC –8640 pounds! - that is 4 TONS! WOW!!!
  • Average number of online views on our worship service – 484 people!
  • Youth Confirmed in 2020 – 9!

WOW!!! Thank you for making these ministries and missions possible. These numbers represent people receiving the love of Jesus Christ. Thank you! This church is a blessing.

We are making some fun plans for 2021!
We are going to have create additional homebound ministries. We are meeting soon to plan a safe Easter Egg Hunt. Creating an art show. Having organ recitals. More on all these wonderful ministries soon. I need your help planning and supporting.

For now, I need your help writing devotionals. This year during Lent we will be sending the devotional every morning. Please consider writing one or more. Please contact Barb Combs at bcombs220@gmail.com if you are interested or have any questions.

Ash Wednesday is around the corner – February 17. I have bags of ashes at the church for you to pick up. Do NOT mix water with ashes. If ashes become too dry, mix with olive oil. I have attached a liturgy to use plus copies available at the church. We will be going Facebook Live on Ash Wednesday as well.

Thank you for your generous giving in 2020. We were able to pay all our bills. Thank you! I know it was a challenging year. However, November and December’s giving was off. We are worried about the drastic cut in giving. I encourage you to remain faithful in your giving. Remember the “Praise Report” up above with all our ministries in 2020.

I know you miss being in church. However, the covid numbers are too high. As I type this email, I have multiple friends in the hospital with covid. Trey and I have made a commitment as a family to only go to places that are essential, like the grocery store and medical appointments. We are not eating in restaurants or going to events. We are in the middle of winter.  Outside worship has been simply too cold to offer. However, if the forecast for any Sunday looks above 50 degrees at 11:30, I will send out a church wide email Saturday evening so you can come worship in the Garden.  I am watching covid numbers. Once the covid numbers decrease, we will be able to offer in-person worship again.

I know some of you are struggling right now. Depression and anxiety are at an all time high. I encourage you to seek counseling, go for a walk, pray, and get plenty of sleep. I am recording a video for our congregation with a therapist next week. I hope this video gives you some resources and insight.

Finally, remember the hope found in Jesus Christ!!! We are given the most precious gift – our savior – Jesus Christ. I invite you to listen to Amazing Grace sung by Dallas UMC.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSqgfBk-rpM

Blessings,
Ashley

Upcoming Gatherings
Bible Study
with Barb

Our Bible Study with Barb study of 1st Peter concludes on Wednesday, Jan 27, at 7:00 in the Fellowship Hall or via Zoom.

This week we are discussing ‘Our Life as Believers,’ based on 1st Peter 4:7 – 5:14. Peter’s message for the new believers and for us today is that we should live expectantly because Christ is coming. He gives six ways on how to prepare for the coming of Christ:
           1. Live each day as though Christ could return at once (4:7)
           2. Keep a clear head, not getting carried away by self-indulgence (4:7)
           3. Stay disciplined and alert for prayer (4:7)
           4. Make active expressions of love a priority (4:8)
           5. Be faithful in the stewardship of your gifts, investing your time and talent where they will
make an eternal difference (4:10)
           6. In everything, praise God as the source of your energy and the reason for your service. (4:11).

What great ideas for ways to live our lives! Join us as we discuss these ways to live our lives as believers of Christ. Call or text Barb if you have any questions. See you on the 27th!

Bible Study
with Barb

New Study Starts Feb. 3

Bible Study with Barb will begin a 3-week Bible study, God and the Pandemic, on Wednesday, Feb 3, on the challenges of our faith as we navigate these troubled times through the pandemic of covid.

This Bible study series is offered through the World Council of Churches, to help us come to terms – as individuals, groups, and communities of faith – with the loss, fear, and confusion of the pandemic. It also will show us the prospect of building the world anew. This is open to all persons of our church community and will be offered either in person in the Fellowship Hall or via Zoom.

Watch for more detailed information in next week’s Weekly Connection. Contact Barb Combs if you have any questions. (419-680-2103)

Spirit Journey

OK ladies! The Spirit Journey Connexion Group is continuing on with our Really Bad Girls of the Bible.

We will meet on Thursday, Jan.28, at 1:30 in the Fellowship Hall as we learn about Jael. Jael is only mentioned in one scripture passage in the Bible but boy, was she a forced to be reckoned with! Her story took place at the time that Israel was at war with the Canaanites. The question to be asked of Jael is whether she really was a bad girl or was she a Bad-for-a-Good-Reason Girl.

We have so much fun learning about these girls from the Bible! Come and join us as we spend an hour or so, learning and laughing! Call or text Barb Combs if you have any questions or to get our copy of the book. See you Thursday!

Please text or call me, 419-680-2103, with all your questions about any Connexion Group. Blessings, Barb
We Would Love to
Hear From You
Have you enjoyed reading the Wednesday morning devotionals? Have you thought, "I would like to share some of my thoughts about my spiritual life?"

We would love to have some volunteers to write devotionals. You don't have to be a Biblical scholar to write a devotional. We would love to hear from all of you!

This year during Lent we will be sending the devotional every morning. Please consider writing one, or more, from one of the subjects on the list. You can take a look at the list by using the link below. Please contact Barb Combs at barbcombs@senoiaumc.org if you are interested or have any questions.

·        What do I do to contribute a devotion?
Pick a subject that interests you. Let Barb know what date(s) you would like to take. When you have written your devotion please email it to barbcombs@senoiaumc.org.

·        What happens after I email my devotional?
Lee will get the devotional from Barb and set it up to be sent on your date.

·        Is there a certain format I should use to send the devotion?
You can send your devotion as an email or a Word document. Please don’t use .pdf as that can not be copied into the mail service that Lee uses. If you want to include a certain picture send a copy of that as .jpg or .png file.

·        Is there a certain format I should use for the devotion?
Devotions are very personal and you should write from your heart. You may want to include a scripture or two that speaks to you. Some people finish with a short prayer. Your devotion can be as long or short as you need. This is not a grammar test, but rather an opportunity to share with your church family. If you want help, please reach out to Barb.
