AGC MA AT WORK FOR YOU

A Message from the CEO

Picture1.png

Welcome to the new year and welcome to the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts!

It was a productive first year as CEO even as it was an unpredictable second year of the pandemic. Nevertheless, AGC MA and our members have continued to lead the industry on the issues of the day while maintaining the core services that are the foundation of our success.

With justice and equality at the forefront of our minds in 2021, we held a first-of-its-kind Diversity Summit of industry leaders, organized tools and best practices on building an inclusive work culture, participated in the first-of-its-kind Construction Inclusion Week, and our Board of Directors ratified a first-of-its-kind Commitment to Action on Diversity and Inclusion. As we continue this work, we are now looking to expand our efforts to also diversify business opportunities in the industry.

AGC 32nd Annual National Safety Awards

AGC_logo_horiz_on_white.jpg

The National AGC Safety Awards (NASA) program has been an ongoing effort since 1991 to offer AGC members an opportunity to evaluate their safety record. Participating members receive a confidential printout to compare their company’s safety statistics with similar size and type AGC members both locally and nationally. The NASA provides a great opportunity for members with excellent safety records to compete for nationally recognized awards. Additionally, this information can be used to assist in determining if additional accident prevention and loss-control measures are necessary.

What a Contractor Must Do to Participate:

Transfer the appropriate information from the OSHA form 300A, including the work-hour data, to the NASA participant form and provide it to Kara Cady at cady@agcmass.org by February 11, 2022.

AGC of America Outstanding Emerging Student Chapter Award

umass_seal__rgb-color_1500x1500px_72.jpg

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) is proud to announce that the AGC Student Chapter at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has earned the Outstanding Emerging Student Chapter Award in the 2021 AGC Outstanding Student Chapter Contest! The judges were impressed with the obstacles the chapter overcame as well as the growth documented in the application.

Despite being unable to host any events in-person, the UMass Amherst Student Chapter still managed to organize and host a full schedule of events for both the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. This included two virtual construction site tours, OSHA-10 Construction Training, a guest speaker panel, multiple guest lectures, and fun events.

When the COVID-19 pandemic sent students home in March 2020, the new AGC Student Chapter Officers lost their opportunity to "shadow" the previous officers. With no previous experience, it was intensely challenging for them to learn how to run the UMass AGC Student Chapter, and run it virtually. Not only did they overcome the challenges, but they were highly successful in providing a space for students to learn about the construction industry and interact with each other during a difficult time.

Congratulations, we applaud your chapters’ dedication to the enrichment of construction education!

OSHA Update

Effective January 26, 2022, OSHA has withdrawn its COVID-19 vaccination-or-testing emergency temporary standard (ETS) applicable to private businesses with 100 or more employees. OSHA is now shifting its focus towards creating a permanent COVID-19 standard applicable to healthcare settings. Notwithstanding the withdrawal of the ETS, OSHA will continue to inspect employer worksites for COVID-19 safety measures under the agency's current standards, including OSHA’s general duty clause.

States that operate their own Occupational Safety and Health Plans are required to adopt maximum penalty levels that are at least as effective as Federal OSHA's.

Linked below are the maximum penalty amounts, with the annual adjustment for inflation, that may be assessed after Jan. 15, 2022.
