IPUL's E-News for April 14, 2023

Here are the highlights of our upcoming events and recent activity online. Not everything is included due to timeliness.

If an advertised event already took place, we've left it off.

IPUL Livestreams!

IPUL was live a couple of times this week!

The first time was on Monday, when we sat down and had a conversation on how the unwinding of the public health emergency of Medicaid continuous coverage was going to be impacting everyone, including service providers.

You can see Allison's visit with Brandi Shaffer and Jared Hull from A New Hope at this link.

Next was on Wednesday, when Sarah sat down with Randi Cole from the Idaho State Department of Education to have a conversation about what parents need to know when their child transitions to college.

special books by special kids

Special Books by Special Kids

Hi all,

Hopefully, you're familiar with Special Books by Special Kids. Chris is planning a trip west including Idaho!

I am traveling out west for the first time since 2019 to film SBSK interviews. While there, I want to meet as many people in our community as humanly possible. If you would like to be interviewed on SBSK and live out west, email me at interview@sbsk.org with a paragraph or two about your story. Please include your city and state in the subject of the message to make it easy to organize. So far, my stops include Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California and Colorado. I also left some room for spontaneity. Oh yeah this trip starts next week too! I will respond to as many people as possible. I look forward to continuing this great adventure and making more friends across the country.

"Thank you to everyone who has continued to support SBSK for over 8 years! IF you live out west and would like to interview you can email me at interview@sbsk.org with a few paragraphs about your story. Please include you city and state in the subject of the email so it is easy to organize on my end. Thank you!"

PhotoVoice Art Exhibition

For students, teens, or families - Sharing this from FYIdaho an upcoming event that might interest you as part of FYIdaho’s Children's Mental Health Week (May 8th-12th), teens and young adults (ages 13-25)from across Idaho are invited to participate in a PhotoVoice art research project focused on youth mental health.

What is PhotoVoice? PhotoVoice is a method of research where participants develop prompts and take photographs to represent their responses to the prompts. Teens developed these prompts with support from students at the College of Idaho. This year’s prompts include the following:

How does social media impact our mental health?

Are mental health resources accessible in the community/schools?

How do we internalize stigmas that are projected onto us by society?

Who can participate? Idaho teens and young adults (age 13-25) who are passionate about mental health and or art. No artistic background is required, and all are encouraged to participate.

How to participate? Interested teens and young adults are invited to create photos and narrative responses to the prompts provided. Participants can submit their photos and responses via the Google Form. All participants must complete the participation and parent permission form. Participants 18 years and older can sign for themselves.

Where will the art be displayed? Interested participants can choose to have their artwork displayed in virtual and in-person galleries across the state.

To participate, teens or young adults must submit their photo submission and permission forms by Sunday, April, 30th at midnight:

Thank you for taking the time to read this email, please share the attached flyer and information with staff, colleagues, teens, and parents. Feel free to hand out these fliers to anyone you know who would be interested. Contact support@fyidaho.org or 208-907-1393 with any questions.
