For centuries, the people of God have offered lambs for sacrifice. Jesus’ sacrifice was the one sacrifice meant to satisfy the need of all other sacrifices. Today, we celebrate the Memorial of St. Agnes, who was killed around the age of 12 or 13 by rejecting the overtures of a would-be rapist, by acclaiming the Lord her spouse. She is often depicted with a lamb which is the symbol of innocence and being a follower of the Good Shepherd.
Our journey continues acknowledging Jesus, our Good Shepherd. Uniting our prayers through the intercession of St. Agnes we pray for all the young innocents who are abused, neglected, unwanted and disposed of in our own society today.
