Family Day - Sunday May 28

Since 1976, Family Day has been sponsored by the Town of Qualicum Beach and organized by a group of dedicated volunteers.

Held on the last Sunday of each May, this event is packed full of community spirit. It includes a pancake breakfast at the Civic Centre, a street parade down Second Avenue West, and an afternoon of activities, entertainment, and food at the Community Playing Fields. The day then wraps up with a free swim at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre.

The committee is seeking volunteers and participants to get involved. Do you know how to face paint? Have a group to join in the parade? Have an interactive display for your group? Available to volunteer? Sign up at qualicumbeach.com/qualicum-beach-family-day

Civic Centre Generator Replaced

A new emergency generator has been installed at the Civic Centre to advance the Town’s readiness in an emergency event.

The Civic Centre is highly utilized in emergency situations, but is only functional while power is available. By installing a generator, the region’s emergency response capacity exponentially increases and its reliability is safeguarded.

This project allows the Town to offer an alternate Emergency Operations (EOC) location to its regional partners, with 24/7 support during an event, regardless of a power grid outage.

As a public facility, the Civic Centre is also available to any community group or organization to use for emergency training and exercise planning.

The project was scheduled work, with a total cost of approximately $120,000. The Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) provided $25,000 in funding, in recognition of the project’s value to the region.

Affordable Housing Site Preparation

The ‘Residences at Qualicum Station’ development project commenced site preparations on March 23, through Saywell Contracting. The project will provide 56 affordable housing units on Town-owned land located at the intersection of Railway Street and Village Way.

The Town is working in partnership with Saywell Contracting to implement a traffic management plan that meets safety requirements and minimizes disruption for local residents and businesses. To ensure a safe construction process, the Town asks residents to practice caution around the development perimeter.

Construction is expected to take approximately 19 months, and Saywell Contracting and the Qualicum-Parksville Kiwanis Housing Society are committed to keeping neighbours informed throughout the project’s duration.

Applications for housing are made through BC Housing and Kiwanis. For more information on making an application contact qpkhousing@shaw.ca
