A new emergency generator has been installed at the Civic Centre to advance the Town’s readiness in an emergency event.
The Civic Centre is highly utilized in emergency situations, but is only functional while power is available. By installing a generator, the region’s emergency response capacity exponentially increases and its reliability is safeguarded.
This project allows the Town to offer an alternate Emergency Operations (EOC) location to its regional partners, with 24/7 support during an event, regardless of a power grid outage.
As a public facility, the Civic Centre is also available to any community group or organization to use for emergency training and exercise planning.
The project was scheduled work, with a total cost of approximately $120,000. The Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) provided $25,000 in funding, in recognition of the project’s value to the region.
