Cover for the Talking Heads album Little Creatures by Howard Finster
Dear Friends,

This week, we received a request from Fiona Kobasz in Portland, Oregon to share our 1992 story about the visionary artist Howard Finster, who died in 2001. He was featured in the Newark Museum’s 1992 exhibition A World of Their Own: 20th Century American Folk Art. Producers Susan Wallner and Don McGill visited Finster at his Paradise Garden in Georgia, where he describes how he became a “man of visions.” Many people first became familiar with his work after seeing the album covers he created for the Talking Heads and R.E.M. Finster’s endless energy was matched by an inventive visual style, and his work continues to be shown in museums around the world.

In these tumultuous times, take a break with Howard Finster in his garden.
