HOW TO CHECK OUT
STEP 1
Sign up for a check out time with your RA. Students will check out with their RA at the resident's apartment or residence hall suite, Friday,
April 28-Friday, May 5. Residents must be approved by HRL to check out after 6 p.m. on Friday, May 5.

RAs will post check out sign up forms on or near their exterior doors beginning Monday, April 10. Deadline to sign up for a check out time is Wednesday, April 26.
STEP 2
Prior to checking out these procedures must be followed to avoid the $200 improper check out charge:

  • Remove all your belongings (including trash).
  • Clean living room, dining room and bedrooms.
  • Sweep, mop and vacuum all floors.
  • Clean all counters and drawers.
  • Clean the kitchen, refrigerator and stove.
  • Clean bathroom, tub, toilet, sink and mirrors.
STEP 3
Check out with your RA during your scheduled appointment time. Turn in your key to your RA.

Failure to properly check out will result in an improper check out charge of $200. This charge is in addition to any damage charges, losses, cleaning charges, or room/board assessment. Failure to return your key will result in an improper check out charge, as well as a $60 lock change fee.

What if my RA is not available during the time I need to check out?
If your RA does not have availability to do a check out when you need to move out, then please contact your RA.

What if I need to check out after hours or I am checking out after
May 6?
If you need to check out after hours (9 p.m.-8 a.m.), then you may use the drop box outside of the HRL office. If you are checking out after
May 6, then you may use the drop box or drop off your key inside the HRL office during business hours. Students choosing to use the drop box should take one of the check out packets in the box, fill it out (will need a pen), put the key inside the packet, seal the packet and drop in the box where it says Insert Envelope Here.
WHAT IF I NEED TO STAY AFTER FRIDAY, MAY 5?
Request to Stay Late for Friday Finals
The last day of the spring 2023 semester is Friday, May 5 at 6 p.m. If residents need to stay late due to a Friday final that begins at 12 p.m. or later, they may check out by 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. They must submit a Stay Late Request and include the class number, class name and time of final scheduled for Friday, May 5.

Request to Stay Late for Other Reasons

Stay Late Request Form
The Stay Late Request is available on the Housing Portal and the deadline to submit is Friday, April 28. Stay Late requests must be approved by HRL staff. Students will receive an email with the status of their request.

  • Residents approved to stay late and checking out 6 p.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, May 5 or 8 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, should sign up for a check out time with their RA. Residents checking out after 9 p.m., should turn in their key at the drop box outside of the HRL office.

WHAT IF I NEED TO STAY AFTER SUNDAY, MAY 7?
If a resident needs to stay after Sunday, May 7, they must complete a summer housing contract. Residents will be charged by the day ($28/day) for all days in Housing after May 7. To complete the summer contract, please log into the Housing Portal.
When packing up belongings residents are encouraged not to leave items in their vehicles overnight. This provides opportunity for theft.
STAYING FOR SUMMER?
You will not check out. You will be contacted by HRL when your summer assignment is ready for you to move. Students currently living in housing will not move out of their spring assignment until notified their summer assignment is ready. Residents staying for summer need to have completed the summer housing contract. Summer housing rates are $28/day for a four person/two bedroom and $47/day for a two person/two bedroom.

To complete the summer contract, please log into the Housing Portal.
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY MAIL AND PACKAGES?
The USPS considers a campus address as temporary and will not forward mail. Residents will need to notify family, friends and businesses of their address change. Housing and Residence Life will not hold or forward mail/packages even if you are returning for fall. HRL only processes mail/packages for summer housing residents.

Residents that have not picked up their mail or packages need to do so before checking out. Any mail and packages not picked up by May 8 will be returned to sender; this does not apply to summer housing residents.
If you have questions, contact your RA or Housing and Residence Life at 812-468-2000 or email Living
