Neil leads Google Cloud’s technical team for Telecommunications and Retail in Canada. His team focuses on how to enable, safe, secure, private computing for enterprises at scale in the cloud. He has been leading teams at Google for the last two and a half years, and prior to that was the Chief Technology Officer at Scalar Decisions prior to its sale to CDW Canada. 

Neil will chat about how Google Cloud approaches security and privacy both internally and externally, some historical context on some events that have changed and shaped how Google Cloud approaches security, isolation and most importantly extreme data privacy.

He will touch on Google Cloud’s presence in Canada, how Google itself has used many of our technologies to quickly adapt to secure remote working during COVID, despite being well known for having a strong office-based culture (and a few perks!)

IFIP Adopts New Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct 

At the virtual IFIP General Assembly (GA) held on 24th September 2020, the GA enthusiastically adopted a new IFIP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.  

The Code has been adapted from the ACM Code of Ethics published previously, which itself had been through many years of consultation and development with members of IFIP, IEEE and other national and international bodies and companies.

Hausi MüllerHausi A. Müller is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Victoria. He is Co-Chair of the IEEE Future Directions Quantum Initiative and serves on the IEEE Conferences Committee (2019-2021).

He is General Chair of IEEE Quantum Week Oct 12–16, 2020, the inaugural IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing & Engineering (QCE20) [qce.quantum.ieee.org]. He was Vice President of IEEE Computer Society (CS) Technical and Conferences Activities Board (2016–2018), member of the CS Board of Governors (2015–2017), Chair of the CS Technical Council on Software Engineering (2011-2015).
