It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
No one goes all out for Christmas like the Merrifield Garden Center. Founded in 1971 by Bob Warhurst and Billy Williams, this has been the place to go for all things Christmas since then.

From a freshly cut Christmas tree, to a realistic artificial one, from ornaments for every possible scenario to a breathtaking Christmas cactus, you’ll find something to please that hard to buy person or something perfect for that one spot in your home or office that looks bare and lonesome.

If you haven’t felt the Christmas Spirit yet this year, go spend a half hour wandering around their shop. It will be just what you needed.
Merrifield Garden Center is practicing safe Covid protocols, so don’t leave your mask behind, and safely distance yourself from their helpful staff members and the other customers.

You can check out some of their greenhouse offerings here:

Dunn Loring/Merrifield Metro Station not slated to close in Metro’s proposed budget cuts

GMBA is relieved to see that the Dunn Loring/Merrifield Metro Station escaped being one of the 19 stations WMATA plans to close. The WMATA subway system is facing huge budget deficits due to ridership being down and extra cleaning expenses related to Covid. The precautions Metro implemented, designed to keep the cars as clean and germfree as possible, have added significantly to the budget woes.

The proposed changes, (19 stations closing and no weekend service) are slated to take place in July of 2021, sadly coinciding with projections of when a Covid vaccine may be available to the general public.

WMATA proposes closing four Virginia stations, including McLean, Virginia Square, Arlington Cemetery and East Falls Church. WMATA needs a rescue plan of $500 million dollars from the Federal Government to close the budget gap.
Closing the Dunn Loring/Merrifield station would have had a huge impact on the retail and restaurants on Prosperity and Avenir Place, businesses that are already reeling from Covid.

Below is a link giving additional details and listing all of the 19 proposed station closings.
