  • The winter exam schedule is posted here
  • Spring quarter registration will begin today at 9am. Find information about registration and the limited enrollment form on ASA's website. Limited enrollment will be open until 9am on Wednesday, January 13. Open enrollment will begin at noon on Friday, January 15.
  • Swap Days: Friday, January 15 will follow a Thursday class schedule for UL classes. Friday, January 22 will follow a Wednesday class schedule for UL classes. Friday, January 29 will follow a Thursday schedule for UL classes. 1L classes have no more swap days in January. See the full academic calendars here.
  • *Call for TalentCISP is hosting the Annual No Talent Show on Thursday, January 21st, with details to follow! All proceeds from this event will go to fund public interest co-op scholarships! Sign-up to perform an act at the show. Everyone is encouraged to participate, both those with and "without" talent. Perform a skit, do impressions of your professors, play an instrument, or have your dog do tricks. All acts are welcome! Co-op, Graduation Requirement, and Other Upcoming Administrative Deadlines
  • Upcoming Co-op Deadlines: 
    The first supplemental deadline for Spring 2021 co-ops will be TOMORROW, Tuesday, January 12th at 11:59pm Eastern
    The next Main Deadline for Summer 2021 co-ops will be Wednesday, January 20th at 11:59 PM Eastern.
  • Spring Quarter Course on Racial Justice and Prosecutorial Metrics
    This course combines a 1-credit Public Service Externship Seminar (Wednesdays, 6:15-7:30 pm) with a 2-3 credit Public Service Externship at the Racial Justice Program of the ACLU of Massachusetts. The seminar will be taught by NUSL graduate Duci Goncalves, Attorney in Charge, Youth Advocacy Division at the Quincy Office of the Committee for Public Counsel Services. In the remote fieldwork component, students will work under the supervision of NUSL graduate Rahsaan Hall undertaking legal and policy analysis of prosecutorial data obtained through public records requests from district attorney's offices across Massachusetts. Students may choose to enroll for either two or three credits of fieldwork. This course is limited to four students.

  • The Graduate Students of Color Collective along with other partner graduate organizations will be hosting the 5th Annual Multi-Cultural Mixer on January 22, 2021. This event seeks to bring together Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni for a networking/social opportunity.   • PHRGE Human Rights Fellowship!  Deadline: January 19 at noon! PHRGE will award two Fellowships for the spring quarter. Each fellow will receive $3500 (typically in the form of financial aid) to help defray the costs of an unpaid human rights co-op. Find more information and application instructions on the PHRGE Fellowship websiteFor the spring quarter, PHRGE will privilege fellowships that promote racial justice!

Opportunities for Student Distinction
  • Applications are now open for the 2021 Congressional Innovation Scholars Program, placing technologists to serve as tech policy advisors to top Members of Congress (offices like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and the House Judiciary Committee).  

    The program pays a $60,000-annual equivalent stipend and other benefits and fellows have done incredible work like:  
    • Working on the House Judiciary Committee's Antitrust Subcommittee report on Big Tech
    • Passing the OPEN Government Data Act into law
    • Securing changes to defense procurement policy to allow startups to better compete with big government contractors

  • The Massachusetts Bar Foundation has announced the availability of applications for its 2021 Legal Intern Fellowship Program. Law students selected as MBF Legal Intern Fellows will receive a stipend of $6,000 to volunteer for ten weeks during the summer at a nonprofit organization that provides civil legal services to low-income clients in Massachusetts. Applications for the Legal Intern Fellowship Program are due at the MBF's offices by 5pm on March 12, 2021. The application and additional details can be found here.   • Applications for the ABA's Business Law Section's 2021 Diversity Clerkship Program are now open. Current eligible second year law students are encouraged to apply. The Diversity Clerkship Program is a summer program that provides business law clerkship placements for qualified diverse second year law students.  Participating clerks receive support and mentoring in the business law field and exposure to business practices that many of them lack. In addition to a placement in a business court clerkship, Diversity Clerkship participants will also receive a stipend of $3,000 to cover living expenses for the duration of the 8-week clerkship.   • The application for the 2nd year of the Initiative for a Representative First Amendment (IfRFA) fellowship is now open! IfRFA provides summer funding to 1Ls and 2Ls from backgrounds underrepresented in First Amendment law. Hosted by Harvard Law School's Cyberlaw Clinic and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, IfRFA provides funded fellowships to law students at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities who are interested in First Amendment work. Applications are open from now until January 11th.   • is now accepting entries for the 2021 contest! Eligible second or third-year law students are welcome to submit original essays on any aspect of family law. First, second, and third-place winners are awarded monetary prizes, as well as publication of the winning entries on the Section's website, and more! See a flyer here or the website. Submissions are due Friday, April 9th, 2021.
  • The Washington Attorneys with Disabilities Association is thrilled to offer a scholarship to be granted this academic year to a law student who has shown commitment to helping promote meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities throughout the legal profession and by sharing the personal experience of a person with disabilities while pursuing a legal career.   • This year's American Indian Law Review national writing competition is now welcoming papers from students at accredited law schools in the United States and Canada.  Papers will be accepted on any legal issue specifically concerning American Indians or other indigenous peoples.  Three cash prizes will be awarded: $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place.  Each of the three winning authors will also be awarded an eBook copy of Cohen's Handbook of Federal Indian Law, provided by LexisNexis. The deadline for entries is Friday, February 26, 2021, at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. For further information on eligibility, entry requirements, and judging criteria, see the attached PDF rules sheet or the AILR writing competition website at http://www.ailr.net/writecomp.
  • The New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA) is currently accepting submissions for the Hon. William C. Conner Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition. The Hon. William C. Conner Writing Competition was established to recognize exceptionally written papers that are submitted by law students and is presented each year at the Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner. The competition is open to students enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program (day or evening). The subject matter must be directed to one of the traditional subject areas of intellectual property, i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair trade practices, antitrust, and data security/privacy issues. Entries must be submitted electronically by Sunday, February 28, 2021, to Richard Brown, rbrown@daypitney.com. Find more information here.
  • The NLR Law Student Writing Competition offers law students the opportunity to submit articles for publication consideration on the NLR Web site.  No entry fee is required. Applicants can submit an unlimited number of entries each month.  Entries are reviewed October through May, when school is in session. Entries must be submitted via email to lawschools@natlawreview.com by 5:00 pm Central Standard Time by the last day of the month.
  • The Law Review Online Forum is accepting submissions from students to write a blog post on any legal or policy topic. The Forum provides an opportunity for NUSL students to publish an article, gain writing experience, and express their views. All posts are between 250 and 1,500 words and follow a blog-style format. The Forum is particularly looking for students to respond to current events. More information can be found here. Current posts are viewable here.   • The Law Review's online counterpart Extra Legal is accepting article submissions from faculty and studentsExtra Legal is aimed at publishing legal commentaries that support legal professionals and facilitate ongoing discussion of emerging legal issues. Submissions should be between 2,000 and 5,000 words and written as a formal Law Review article. Extra Legal is particularly looking for responses to current events.
