Welcome to our Interim Rector!

Dear All Saints Parishioners,

The Vestry and I are pleased to announce we have called The Rev. Penny Nash as our Interim Rector. Penny comes to us with experience as a priest and dedication to God. The Vestry feels Penny will be an amazing leader to guide us over the next year examining ourselves and looking toward to the future and works God is calling All Saints to pursue.

Greetings, people of All Saints Church Richmond!

My name is Penny Nash and I am thrilled to have accepted the call to serve as your interim rector, beginning January 1st. I am deeply grateful to the All Saints vestry leadership, especially the wardens Bari Pitts and James Forsythe, as well as to Bruce Wright, and Associate Rector John Hogg for spending time with me as we discerned together and then worked out the details of making this happen.

About me: I am a native North Carolinian, but I spent much of my adult life in Atlanta, where I married, raised a family, went to seminary and was ordained to the priesthood. I moved to Virginia nine years ago and now live in the Glenburnie neighborhood of Richmond with two photogenic cats. My husband Tom Cox and I have three adult children who all live in Virginia now too. We are happy to call Richmond home.

In terms of things churchy, I have been certified by both the Interim Ministry Network and the Center for Congregational Health to work as an interim rector. Most recently I was interim rector at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Heights, but most of my church experience has been in larger church settings, from St. Stephen’s here in Richmond to Bruton Parish in Williamsburg, and my home church is also All Saints Church, a large parish in midtown Atlanta.

Later on we’ll be talking more specifically about what we’ll be doing together in this interim time, but for now I’ll just say that it’s vitally important to spend some time taking stock, determining who All Saints is as a parish in Richmond Virginia in 2021, and where and what God might be calling All Saints to be, so that when you begin searching for a new rector, you will know who you’re looking for: the right person to live into that identity and that calling as you go forward together.

Each of you has a part to play in this work.

Mostly, though, I wanted to introduce myself and say again just how happy I am to be joining you for this important time in the life of the parish. I believe that we will have some fun together as we look at who you have been and who you are and who you want to be.

I will be with you for worship as the preacher on the Second Sunday of Christmas, January 3rd, and I am really forward to getting to know you!
So blessings as Advent comes to a close and more blessings as we enter into the season of Christmas, as we rejoice at the coming of our Savior to be born among us again this year.

Glory to God in the Highest and Peace to you all!
See you soon!
