Stewardship 2021
You will receive a mailing with a letter from the Rev. Rob Fisher as well as one from Toby Stock, Chair of the Stewardship Committee, encouraging you to make a pledge in 2021. Soon a pledge card will be in the mail to you, too, but of course you can always pledge online by clicking the button bellow.
While it is always the case that your commitment to support St. John's in the year ahead is a meaningful expression of your faith and membership in this community, this year St. John's needs you more than ever. Our finances are under strain from the pandemic, even as we know many of our parishioners have experienced their own hardships. If you are in the fortunate position of being able to make an early and even increased pledge to our church for 2021, we would be grateful. Any pledge, large or small, is important and provides necessary information as our vestry makes decisions for next year.

Outdoor Church School for Children

Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA.
This Sunday, we will have an outdoor church school time for children immediately prior to the 4:00 p.m. Outdoor Communion Gathering on the grounds of Virginia Theological Seminary. This will include biblical storytelling and movement. An adult will need to accompany each child to ensure social distancing and mask wearing. Please register by Saturday at noon.

Baptism at St. John's
Baptism Class: Thursday, October 8, at 7:00 p.m. | Online via Zoom
If you are interested in having a child baptized, or in baptism for yourself, please contact Kaye Edwards. 
Note that the parents or grandparents of children being baptized must be active, pledging members of St. John’s. Adults interested in baptism for themselves must attend the Rector’s Adult Inquirers’ Class and be active, pledging participants in the life of the parish. 

To give families options during this extraordinary time, and until St. John's is open for full Sunday services, the Rector will discuss options to a church service with families, including baptisms at home (and preferably outdoors) or a private baptism at the church. All baptisms must comply with health and safety guidelines.

COVID-19 Pandemic Service and Giving Opportunities

Our Rector, the Rev. Rob Fisher, has an emergency fund for those who are in need of financial assistance. If you need financial help or would like to contribute to the emergency fund, please reach out directly to the Rev. Rob Fisher.

To support members of parishes in the Diocese of Washington who suffer from food insecurity and other hardships, the diocese has suspended the Annual Bishop’s Appeal for the diocesan budget and has replaced it with a Covid-19 Emergency Relief Appeal.  You can make a gift on the diocesan website at this link: https://www.edow.org/about/giving.
St. John’s Mask Project Number Two Now Helps Needy Hispanic Immigrants
The Afghan refugee family commissioned by St. John's Refugee Committee to sew surgery masks for George Washington Hospital delivered 521 masks to the hospital when the supply of N-95 masks was inadequate. Now that the hospital is supplied with N-95 masks, St. John's has joined with Christ Church, Alexandria to supply masks to families who are in dire need. The community in Arlandria - most especially, the Latinx community - has been severely affected by the pandemic. For more information, contact Gay and Bob Pasley, the project organizers for the Refugee Committee, here.
