As 2020 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on our challenges and successes in 2020, a year like no other.

Congratulations to six of our Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) alumni for being re-elected this past November! GSPM’s geographic reach now includes alumni elected to state legislatures in Ohio, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington. Congratulations also go to two of our GSPM alumni for recent senior-level positions.

Event Recap: The Conduct of Cyber-Enabled Information Operations

During the Sept. 17, 2020 virtual event, a distinguished panel of experts discussed a fictitious, but realistic video scenario. A terrorist group working with sophisticated, international hackers launched a multi-faceted cyber campaign aimed at undermining western democratic principles and election security. They examined the challenges in the scenario, as well as how to deter and counter them to maintain national and global security.

Two SUP Students Awarded APA Diversity Scholarship

Congratulations to Sustainable Urban Planning (SUP) students Alexander Davis and Courtney Wheeler for receiving the inaugural National Capital Area Chapter of the APA Diversity Fellowship (NCAC-APA).

As recipients of the NCAC-APA Fellowships, Mr. Davis and Ms. Wheeler will each receive an award in the amount of $1,000.00, as well as the support of a professional mentor.

Congratulations to Suzanne Farrand on her new role as assistant dean of students for CPS. She brings a wealth of experience to the College’s administrative team, with more than fifteen years of diverse experience in higher education, including expertise with academic programs, policies, advising and of course, student affairs.

GW Ethics in Publishing Conference Draws Large Virtual Crowd

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, John W. Warren, director of our master’s in publishing program, successfully organized the 10th Annual Ethics in Publishing Conference for hundreds of participants. The virtual program included 11 sessions and 22 speakers, with topics such as equity, inclusion, diversity, accessibility, sustainability, peer review and other issues of ethics in publishing. Melanie Jonas, CPA, Promoted to Finance Director for CPS

Congratulations to Melanie Jonas, the new Finance Director for CPS, effective December 1. As Finance Director, she will play a critical role in the operation of the college as part of the senior management team.

Cybersecurity Alumnus Passes Prestigious CISSP Certification

Congratulations to Eric J. Curcio, a 2018 alumnus of our cybersecurity bachelor’s degree completion program, on passing his Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) examination. The certification is highly sought after by employers as the “top” certification in cybersecurity.

AT&T CIPP Director Named MIT Solve Indigenous Communities Fellow
Elizabeth Rule, MIT Solve 2020 Indigenous Communities Fellow
Congratulations! Dr. Elizabeth Rule, Director of our AT&T Center for Indigenous Politics & Policy (AT&T CIPP), is one of eight fellows recognized by MIT Solve for building innovative projects that blend technology with traditional knowledge. She will receive $10,000 to further develop the Guide to Indigenous D.C. mobile app and expand the project to additional regions.

Editor-in-Chief Announced for GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing 
Randy Townsend
Randy Townsend, MPS, was announced as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing, a student-managed publication hosted by the Masters of Professional Studies in publishing program, within the College of Professional Studies at The George Washington University.

The George Washington University's Center for Excellence in Public Leadership (CEPL) is proud to present its sixth cohort of the Executive Women's Leadership Program (EWLP) from March 24-26, 2021.

The online program is designed for women leaders in the private and public sectors who aspire to positions of greater influence and impact, or who have been identified as high-potential in their organizations.

CEPL hosts numerous other training programs, such as Lean Six Sigma Certification, Mastering Agile Organization Design, Emerging Leaders Workshop and the e-Co Leadership Coaching Program Certification.
