In Praise of Volunteers
Volunteers have played an indelible role in our work and our lives over the years, helping our ministries to thrive, lightening our load, and enriching our lives with their friendship and fellowship. During National Volunteer Week and the other 51 weeks of each year, we are forever grateful for both the obvious and intangible gifts that our volunteers bring. Here, Sisters M. Virginelle Makos and Marguerite Stewart explain a few of the debts of time and talent that we can never repay.
Easier
Than You
Think
As we continue to battle a worldwide pandemic, hands-on volunteerism can be challenging right now. Yet, there are little things you can do from home that can make a big difference to those around you. “Pray, send some snail mail, call someone you know that lives alone, offer to help someone in need,” suggests Sister Jean Makovsky. “Look for the good, and offer a smile or a greeting to someone who would not expect it from you.”
A Wider World
Frances Kralosky Dice, a 1966 graduate of Mount Assisi Academy, recalls a trio of teachers who helped to broaden her horizons and chart a rewarding a course forward for her life and career.
