EMERSON E-NEWS: OCTOBER

Hello Emerson Friends,

We hope you are finding ways to enjoy the autumn sunshine and some of Mother Nature's most colorful work.

This month's newsletter is full of exciting happenings. We are especially excited for our art education programs to start again! We've made some adaptations and created opportunities to continue offering high quality art education programs for learners of all ages in person and online.

We have a new twist and a new partner for Quick Draws & Cocktails! Our friends over at the Kimpton Armory Hotel are helping us plan a fabulous online event featuring art works from some of the amazing local artists featured in their private collection, paired with incredible lodging and dining packages. Together we are taking the ho hum out of online events and bringing sexy back!

Like each of you we are doing our best to keep our community healthy. We are masked up, keeping our hands clean (and the building), maintaining social distance, AND MISSING YOU! Your "Likes" and ❤️'s on our social media posts, visits to our galleries, and messages of support have reminded us how we are still connected. We know that this is not an easy time and we want you to know that we are working hard behind the scenes to care for this building, curate exceptional exhibits, and provide spaces for artists to create. When it feels right for you, mask up and stroll our halls - we are here to greet you with smiling eyes!

With gratitude,

Susan Denson-Guy
Executive Director

 FEATURED TENANT

William C. Pack
Studio 206
New tenant, Bill Pack, is elated to have a studio in what he calls "the wonderful creative sanctuary that is the Emerson". As a writer of historical fiction, he finds the 100+ year-old building an inspired location. Publishing under the name William C. Pack, his first and best-known work, The Bottom of the Sky, was a contender for the Pulitzer Prize in literature and one of the six finalists for the National Best Book Award. Currently, he has a young children's board book coming out this Fall and is finishing a historical novel telling the tale of a migration that spans three continents between 1882 and 1944 that is scheduled to be released next spring.

Bill has not always been an author. He was born in Roundup where his family worked in coal mining. When his family moved to Bozeman in the early 70's, Bill moved to Billings. He started high school there, but dropped out to work in broadcasting and securities brokerage in addition to owning a few local businesses. When he was 30, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, becoming a leader at one of the largest financial services companies in the world. He served a three-year appointment on the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), before retiring at age forty-two.

In retirement, Bill took the G.E.D and SATs and then was accepted into Stanford. After graduation, he became the Stanford's chief archaeologist for the Greater Yellowstone Project. When archeology slowed down in the winters, Bill wrote his first book, The Bottom of the Sky.

Bill and wife moved to Bozeman to be closer to family. He supports international relations and performing arts organizations. He is a passionate advocate for victim of domestic violence with all royalties from The Bottom of the Sky going to women's and children's support groups in Roundup, Billings, Bozeman, and worldwide.

Currently Bill and his wife are self-isolating in preparation to visit their brand new baby grandson. You can still connect with him on Facebook at @williamcpack, and through his websites, www.WilliamCPack.com or www.TheBottomoftheSky.com.
